- What is an Athletic Trainer?
Athletic Trainer's specialize in injury and illness prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for all physically active people. AT's (Athletic Trainers) are required to have a bachelor's or master's degree from an accreditated college or university. To become certified AT's must pass an exam through the independent Board of Certification (BOC) and they must have 80 continuing education credits every 3 years to maintain that certification. - What can the Athletic Trainer do for you and your student athlete?
- Evaluate injuries - What do you do if you (athlete) or your child has received an injury?
- Report to the Athletic Trainer
- Provide rehabilitation (sport specific rehab.)
- Prevent injuries
- Care for present injuries
- Provide education on various health related issues (i.e. nutrition)
- Communicate between coaches and physicians
- Provide referrals for rehabilitation and physical therapy services
- Provide information on sports performance training offered by Holland Hospital
- Look for a home treatment form
- Contact the Athletic Trainer for further questions
- If you chose to seek care from a physician, these are necessary;
- Written note
- Diagnosis and return to play guidelines
- These are required or they will not be able to return to play
