Clayanimation
Project #1 - Parable
Purpose:
- Tell a story through clayanimation.
To Do:
- Create an animation, complete with script, storyboard, characters, and background, to illustrate a parable from the Bible.
Timeline:
- Day 1
- Clayanimation Intro.
- Groups of 3.
- Pick a parable.
- Choose an audience.
- Pool resources.
- Day 2
- Write script.
- Develop storyboard.
- Build set and gather props.
- Build clay characters.
- Day 3
- Get finished script signed.
- Get finished storyboard signed.
- Block out scenes.
- Day 4
- Shoot half of animation (50 photos).
- Day 5
- Shoot second half of animation (50 photos).
- Day 6
- Import photos into iPhoto.
- Organize photos in an album.
- Import photos in iMovie.
- Insert Titles at beginning and end.
- Record narration and insert sound effects.
- Day 7
- Continue refining movie.
- Day 8
- Finalize animation.
- Copy movie to firewire drive.
- May work on another 2 day animation of your choosing.
Requirements:
- Completed the "Project Overview Worksheet."
- Script using Inspiration. All group members must sign off on final script and also must be signed by Executive Producer (Mr. Vos).
- Establish Plot.
- Establish Setting.
- Establish Characters.
- Establish Meaning of Parable.
- Storyboard of shots for movie on paper. All group members must sign off on final storyboard and also must be signed by Executive Producer.
- Create appropriate clay characters.
- Create an appropriate set or background for animation. Include any necessary props.
- To get equipment for filming you will need to show the following
- Completed "Project Overview Worksheet."
- Signed Script.
- Signed Storyboard.
- Group Members sign an "Equipment Readiness" sheet.
- Minimum of two camera angles. Keep camera steady on table or tripod. Background should not move or shake through animation.
- Minimum animation length - 30 seconds.
- Minimum frames - 90 frames.
- Animation illustrates verse in a concise, clear, creative way.
- Creative title at the beginning.
- Words of verse displayed during movie long enough for audience to read.
- Credits at the end.
- Optional: Include titles inbetween scenes to explain what is about to happen or set the context.
- Bonus for an A - creative effects beyond what is mentioned above.
Evaluation:
- Please do the Parable Animation Rubric with another group's animation.
Final Steps:
- Two exports: one to quicktime and another to video.
- Quicktime instructions:
- Go to "Export Movie" in the "File" menu. Choose Export: "to Quicktime." Choose Formats: "CD-ROM Movie, Medium." Then click "Export."
- Name the file "parable-yourtitle" but keep the .mov on the end.
- Save a copy in a group members "Public" folder and save a copy in a groups members "Tech 7" folder.

- Go to Export Movie in the File menu. Chose Export: to Camera.
- Wait 5 seconds for camera to get ready.
- Add 5 seconds of black before movie.
- Add 5 seconds of black at end of movie.
- Then click Export.
- Go to the next project.
