The ABC’s and 123’s are now second nature. Fueled by the boundless curiosity so typical of this age group, students enter Middle School with a growing desire to understand, not simply to know. Holland Christian’s curriculum taps this curiosity with innovative approaches. Projects play an increased role and exploratory mini-courses offer new opportunities to learn. Spiritually, this quest for deeper knowledge is nurtured with an increased emphasis on Bible studies within class, small groups beyond class, and service projects that take students into the community and the world beyond. Individually and in groups, students experience that wonderful Christian paradox of the “server” being just as blessed as the “served.” Study and service, crucial steps toward Christian maturity with passionate and committed Holland Christian faculty as the guides.
1:1 Laptop Program
From its start, Holland Christian Schools has helped students gain wisdom through the unchanging Truth of Jesus Christ, but the tools we have used to teach have changed significantly. Recognizing the power and place of technology in today’s global society, we believe that it must be an integral part of our educational program. We know that children need tools to help make learning relevant, meaningful, and applicable now while allowing for personal choice, creative expression, and collaboration. As a result all 6th-12th grade students are equipped with their own laptop computer that they will carry with them from class to class and even home. We believe teaching the effective use of technology enables us to best meet our mission of equipping and nurturing hearts to transform the world for Christ.
The Middle School curriculum challenges students in Science, Social Studies, Math, Language Arts, Music, Art, and Bible. Students also participate in exploratory mini-courses during the year. Band, Choir, Orchestra, and Technology training are part of the regular school schedule. Students are also encouraged to participate in one or more of a wide array of extracurricular activities available. All students are active in intramural sports; competitive sports begin in 7th grade with 80% of students participating on at least one team.
