iMovie - Music Montage
Purpose:
- To learn to communicate visually through photographs and through music.
- To learn techniques of storytelling with photos and sound.
- To learn techniques with iMovie - editing and sound.
- To learn another avenue to getting the message of the gospel to people.
To Do:
- Make a three to four minute Christian music video using still pictures.
Requirements:
- Create a storyboard identifying photo ideas, titles, and song choice. Do some research for ideas to incorporate into the storyboard.
- Photographs need to match the words and/or message of the song and also be inspiring and add to the message of the song.
- Download photos from the internet, to the computer. Be sure the internet photos are as close to 800 x 600 size.
- Import photos into iPhoto by dragging and dropping. Create a new album in iPhoto with the name of your project. Move photos from your library into the new album. Do any editing and cropping of photos in iPhoto.
- The pace of the photographs is appropriate to the pace of the music.
- To get a ballpark number of photographs you will need, use the length of the song divided by the photo view length you would like. Example: a 4 minute song = 240 seconds; if you'd like to view each picture for 5 seconds, you will need to gather 240/5 = 48 pictures.
- Transitions are appropriately chosen not to stand out on their own but to effectively share the message.
- Include the title of song and artist name at the beginning in a title.
- Quality photographs not pixelated. May use the "Ken Burns Effect" but be careful not to use it too much.
- Credits at the end for photographs and give yourself credit for creating the slideshow.
Final Steps:
- Go to "Export Movie" in the "File" menu. Choose Export: "to Quicktime." Choose Formats: "CD-ROM Movie, Medium." Then click "Export."
- Name the file any name but keep the .mov on the end.
- Save to the appropriate Shared Apps folder.
