GOVERNMENT FINANCIAL AID & PRIVATE SCHOLARSHIPS When a senior applies to a college, the college will
consider that student for all institution-based aid and all state and
federal aid based upon information obtained through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The only
scholarships your son/daughter must apply for are those sponsored by
private organizations. We are making a concerted effort to inform
seniors of all available scholarships. Scholarship information is posted on the counseling bulletin board in the hall and at Holland Christian's webpage. Our web site is updated weekly with incoming scholarship opportunities. Check it out!
FAFSA DEADLINES The FAFSA must be received by the government by March 1, 2009 to qualify a senior for college financial aid consideration. Applications may be completed by mail or online, but online is recommended to increase efficiency and to avoid delays. The application should be completed by February 15, 2009 in order to insure timely receipt. An application may be downloaded and printed at www.federalstudentaid.ed.gov. Follow the links: announcements/filing options. Although the application process does not open until January 1, 2009, students may apply for a PIN now.
A FAFSA Workshop for parents will be presented by Heidi McPheeters, Calvin College Financial Aid Counselor on Tuesday, January 6, 7 pm at HCHS.
A free copy of "Funding Education Beyond High School: The Guide to Federal Student Aid" is available at the counselor's office.
COLLEGE ATHLETICS Seniors who are considering attending a Division I or II University and hope to compete on an athletic team must complete an NCAA application eligibility form. Students can apply on-line at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. If application is made online, a copy of the completed form must be given to Mrs. Rae Lynn Hooley, the counseling secretary, for proof of NCAA registration. It is the student's responsibility to check requirements and make sure his/her senior courses insure eligibility.
SELECTIVE SERVICE REGISTRATION Men must register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. For more information go to www.sss.gov.
