Welcome to Holland Christian High School! HCHS exists to encourage and challenge young people in their faith-walk to passionately pursue a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. In addition to this, Holland Christian offers a wide variety of courses for students of all abilities and interests. This year we have 740 students from eight different countries around the world. As we train students for leadership and service we remain committed to our mission of “equipping minds and nurturing hearts to transform the world for Jesus Christ.”
Each year we gather as a body of believers around a theme for chapel. This year’s theme is "Love Does" based on Bob Goff’s book. The theme verse is John 13:17 “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.” Bob Goff writes the following which we will work through at HCHS during the 2014-2015 school year: “I learned that faith isn’t about knowing all of the right stuff or obeying a list of rules. It’s something more, something more costly because it involves being present and making a sacrifice. Perhaps that is why Jesus is sometimes called Immanuel– ‘God with us.’” We will be using Goff’s book as a guide throughout the year, connecting between home, church, and school, as a way to read together as a HC family. By weaving this into the dialogue of our classrooms, chapels, and conversations, we pray that we might be active doers of the love of God, and thereby transforming the world for Jesus Christ.
Integrating technology into the curriculum is an important feature of the educational experience at HCHS. Each student is equipped with a laptop computer to enhance their learning experience. Our 1:1 learning environment allows each student to connect with each other, staff members, and learners from around the globe. This personal learning environment has gained the attention of experts around the United States as we received the “Apple Distinguished Program” award in 2013-14 and 2014-15 for our demonstrated success for providing an exemplary learning environment and for being a center of innovation, leadership, and educational excellence. This is made possible by the excellent work of our teachers and staff. Teaching in a 1:1 environment also allows us to teach young people how to discern proper use of technology academically as well as socially.
Students at HCHS can get involved in athletics, theatre, music, various clubs, and a variety of service opportunities. It is our intent that each coach/sponsor uses their activity as a vehicle to make an eternal difference in the lives of the students with whom they work. We are excited to offer opportunities where students have an interest as it is our desire to tap into the unique God-given interests of each student at HCHS.
The spiritual climate at HCHS runs deep into each classroom, chapel, and camp experience. Each teacher is a living example of what it means to follow Christ with all of their heart, mind, and soul. Our chapels are planned by students. Our worship is led by students. Each student is embraced for who they are in the context of a loving, grace-filled community of learners. We seek to know God more each day in all that we do at HCHS.
It is an honor to partner with parents to educate the heart, mind, and soul of the young people at HCHS.
