2019 Summer Athletic Letter for 19-20 High School Parents
Dear Parents of Holland Christian High School Athletes,
The 2018-19 school year closed with your child as one of just under 400 individual athletes participating on at least 1 of our 22 athletic programs. Almost 200 of our students participate as a multi-sport athlete in these programs. As a school we promote the benefits of participating in educational athletes and encourage students to participate in more than just one! Sports at Holland Christian are educational at the core as we enjoy the gift of sport. Maroons Athletics develop character and community through the many challenges and successes experienced through our teams. We have so much to be thankful for and celebrate from this past year and look forward to a new group of students as we seek to put knowing God on display through each of our teams.
Athletics requires a broad use of resources to function and perform well. A first-class environment for our athletes includes providing great uniforms, coaches, equipment, transportation and facilities. We invite you to partner with CHAMPS (the athletic fundraising arm for Zeeland Christian and Holland Christian Schools) as we use athletics to assist in meeting our mission of transforming our world for Jesus Christ. Concessions are one of CHAMPS key fundraisers. If your child competes in home events that offer concessions, you will be contacted to volunteer at 2 events during their season. Also, linked is our Donation & Sponsorship Form and we invite you to consider joining the “Maroon & White Club” and/or participate in one of the many sponsorship options available… including our 2nd year offering Civic Center Suites for Friday night basketball games.
Some items to note as we transition into a new athletic year…
- Summer conditioning is a fantastic way to physically prepare for the upcoming athletic year. All athletes are encouraged to attend on M/W/Th from 7:30-9am through August 8. This and other opportunities can be found on our summer opportunities flyer.
- We have a new sports registration process with Final Forms for all MS and HS sports that will provide more efficient communication, better data management and save time through online procedures. If you have not done so already, please register for all sports today.
- We invite you to support the Maroons all year by purchasing spirit wear and an annual athletic pass for your family. Our individual fall team shops and general “Maroons” items will be open August 12-27. Athletic passes are a more affordable way to attend events and will be available for purchase beginning with fall home events, in the HS office and HS check-in day on August 19.
- Finally, all parents are invited to the 2019 Annual Parent Night on August 20. The 7pm keynote session will feature the Executive Director of the MHSAA, Mark Uyl speaking on “The Realities of Positively Parenting HS Athletes” followed by our individual fall sports parent meetings. A special 6pm optional panel session will feature a host of college coaches and administrators addressing the “The Realities of Competing at the Collegiate Level”.
Your involvement in positively supporting your child plays a key role in their experience as a student athlete at Holland Christian. Your roll is also important as a member in a community of parents. We not only invite you to pray for your child as an athlete, but to pray for their teammates and our coaches as we seek to put knowing God on display through our athletic teams. Thank you for all you do and all you give to the athletic programs at Holland Christian. Go Maroons. -Dave Engbers, Athletic Director
