Back To School
Greetings to each of you, Rose Park friends!
I have missed you. We have missed your children. Thank you for your patience in receiving the many necessary details regarding our back-to-school plan this year. I know that this has been a trying time. I have found myself often turning to the words of the Psalmist in chapter 33 this summer. These words give me comfort when facing the unknown. Perhaps these words will offer comfort to you as well as we do life together facing some unknowns. Psalm 33: 20-22
20 We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
21 In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
22 May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.
The division and hurt in our nation is raw and seemingly everywhere recently, isn’t it? I feel it too. I find myself listening, learning, asking and praying as people share opinions, stories and perspectives. Through it all, my heart leans more deeply into our help and our shield. The unfailing love of our Lord Jesus Christ. This year’s theme is “Woven Together”. What a beautiful image and challenge to put before ourselves and our children as we approach this new school year. Truly, as God’s people, we together humble ourselves and submit our lives to God. Therein is our true hope and restoration. Our ever help in times of trouble. We are eager to unpack this theme and truth with your children this year. Please know that every teacher and staff member has been in specific prayer over each family. We know these are not comfortable days. My prayer is that you will see the heart of what you love about learning and living at Rose Park has remained steadfast. Your child will be known, celebrated, laughed with, challenged, prayed over and fully loved this year. Due to necessary safety measures, we will institute some changes we can begin outlining here. More communication will follow with further details but I encourage you to note, the heart of the learning environment, genuine relationships with loving Christian mentors, is just the same as it has always been. God created and designed our teachers to love God and love their students. They intend to provide exactly that this school year. For that we are grateful and excited! It is a JOY to be Woven Together with you in this journey!
When you visit your child’s classroom, you will notice that the room arrangement is a bit different. Students’ desks will face in one direction rather than in small group settings. Children will still have the opportunity to work together in partnerships and small groups. Learning from and with peers is foundational in these early years! Student desks and tables, however, will allow for a bit more spacing between the children.
We will explicitly teach children good hand washing techniques at school. We’ll have plenty of soap and water in the classrooms for the children. Good learning is a messy business. We will engage our children in good learning both indoors and outdoors this year. We will also teach them to wash their hands well. Students will wash regularly after each recess, before eating and at other points in the school day.
Per the Michigan Return to School Roadmap, our Rose Park children will be asked to wear a mask of their choosing when entering our building and in the hallways. During their learning time in the classroom, students will not be asked to wear a mask. We will work to continue to clarify further details for families who require an exception due to medical needs. More details will be communicated to you when they are available.
Lunch In Classroom
Students will eat their lunch in the classroom this year. Our kitchen staff will deliver hot lunch options as ordered to each classroom or they can enjoy their own lunch from home. Children will eat with their teachers at their desks in the classroom.
Teachers will create an official welcome video providing families with helpful information pertinent to the school year from their classroom perspective. You will receive this video on Tuesday, August 18.
Classroom Visit Day!
Roll out the red carpet! We’d like to offer parents the opportunity to meet the teacher in person and see their child’s classroom! Please mark your calendar for the evening of August 20. You will receive an email to sign up for a time slot to visit the classroom and meet your teacher! Parents can choose to sign up for a 15 minute time slot from 5:00-7:00 on the evening of August 20. We are excited to the moon and back to meet you and your child and welcome you into our classrooms!
Thank you, Mrs. Steenwyk and Welcome, Mrs. Rotman!
Over the summer months, Mrs. Steenwyk made the decision to retire from her position as our administrative assistant at Rose Park. We are so grateful for the many years of hospitality, wisdom and friendship she has offered our families, students and staff. She will be missed greatly but we’re happy to envision her enjoying her time in her expanded role of Grandma and Wife. We’re also so grateful to welcome Mrs. Rotman to our front desk. Mrs. Rotman will be serving with Mrs. Chase as our administrative assistant. Mrs. Chase will service our families and staff on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Mrs. Rotman will service families on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Thank you for processing all of this information. While we’ve covered a good deal of the changes your child will notice, I know questions remain. Dr. Forseth is planning further communication and details tomorrow. We want you, our partner, to feel confidently informed with our details of school life and yet not overwhelmed. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions you may have.
Your partner in prayer,
