FS/SS/PR Newsletter – January 2020
January marks the beginning of a new year and a new decade. For us at Holland Christian, this is also the beginning of a new semester, a time when first semester report cards come home, when we take MAPs tests to chart academic progress, and when host open house events. Two such events are Discovery Night at South Side on January 21 and Discovery Day at Forest School on January 11. Most people unfamiliar with Holland Christian Schools respond positively to an invitation from a family member or friend to opportunities like these. Would you consider sharing these events to those you know? We’d love to share the joy of an education at Holland Christian, a place where both students and staff learn together what it means to be a living testimony.

Kid’s Food Basket
Because of the donations received with this year’s Kid’s Food Basket drive we were able to donate just under 500 Snack Sacks for students facing empty cupboards during the two week Christmas break. It is a busy season with a lot going on….. then comes the request for just one more thing to be a part of! For taking the time to help other little ones we say THANK YOU! For making this a priority for your children to be a part of such an important teaching moment and outreach, we Thank you even more. Blessings this New Year as we find more ways to serve God and learn what it means to be a “Living Testimony” for our Lord.
/ Forest School Announcements
In 2018, Tulip Time reframed their mission statement to read “Mission Statement: To celebrate Holland’s tulips, Dutch heritage and community.” To better align ourselves with their mission statement as well as with the goals here at Holland Christian our Rose Park and Forest School students will be given two options for dressing up and walking in the the 2020 Kinderparade. More details will be forthcoming as we get closer to Tulip Time but we want you to be aware of the options well in advance of the Tulip Time season. Our students from Rose Park and Forest School will be given the option of walking in either our new “tulip” section of the parade or our “Dutch heritage” section. The whole of our two groups walking together will be a celebration of our “community”.
- If your first through fourth grade student chooses to opt into the “tulip” section of our parade, your child will design and construct his or her own tulip to carry and then dress as a gardener based around our Living Testimony t-shirt. This gardener costume might include gardening boots and gloves, overalls, a wide-brimmed hat, etc. Anything you have handy at home that helps your child look like a busy gardener tilling the tulips will fit the part perfectly!
- Students who opt into the “Dutch heritage” portion of our student body will wear their own dutch costume and carry the parade props our Rose Park students have carried in the past.
All of our students from Rose Park and Forest School will be walking together as one big community in the aforementioned subsets. More details about logistics, costumes and timing will be coming soon. Don’t hesitate to email Miska with questions or wonderings at email@example.com.

Total Trek Quest
Total Trek Quest is a fun, high energy program designed exclusively for boys in 3rd-5th grade! TTQ incorporates strength and stretching exercises with training for a 5K. Boys in this program will develop positive peer relationships, and feel a part of a team, while also working toward individual goals. Additional practice activities focus on developing a healthy lifestyle, social/relationship skills, how to make healthy choices, and resisting peer pressure. Please register your son here: https://www.raceplanner.com/register/index/AOSpring2020
We’re also always looking for coaches. Coaches can be male or female and are in prime position to be a positive role model for these boys throughout this 9-week journey. Coaches don’t need to be a runner, as the program has much more to offer. All coaches receive support from TTQ staff before, during, and after the season, as well as program training & CPR certification. This is a truly rewarding experience for anyone.
If you have questions regarding registering your boy(s) and/or are interested in coaching, please contact Brandon Melnyk at email@example.com , or 616-450-4651. Thank you, and we’ll see you in the spring!
