Holy Week

With the daylight lingering a bit longer in the evenings and waking earlier each morning and with the warmth returning in the air, I think we can safely say springtime is upon us. With the excitement of early springtime surrounding us, our hearts turn toward the most powerful, transformational promise in our lives. The Easter promise. The truth that God our Father loves us beyond our comprehension. That He sent His Son to willingly get down among us in this earthly mess. To die. The truth that Christ died for our sins to redeem us. Through his death, he brought us back into His fold. He has redeemed us of our broken state and of our sin. It is with great intentionality that we as a staff walk alongside each of our students through the events of Holy Week. Our desire is that they would SEE, FEEL, TASTE and TOUCH the deep and profound love of our Heavenly Father both 2000 years ago and today! Hosanna Loud Hosanna! Join us in the journey to the cross and to the empty tomb!

Report Cards

It is a JOY for us to partner with you in growing and developing every one of these children God has brought to our midst! In your first through sixth grade child’s backpack today, you will find a printed copy of his/her report card. The digital version is available on powerschool, but the printed copy is in the backpack if that is your preference. Please celebrate their growth and progress together. This is also a useful tool to bring to parent/teacher conferences next week.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

We are eager to meet with each of you during our appointed parent/teacher conference time next week. Just in case it slipped your radar, we will be open for conferences on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 4:00-8:00 next week. Please contact your child’s teacher if you need to arrange a time yet. We treasure this time that you give up to sit a bit, celebrate and come together around each child that we love.

Lost and Found

And, on a related note, while you’re in the building for conference, please take a peek at the lost and found table. There are plenty of winter cast offs that are waiting to come home. By next Thursday we’ll need to box up the leftovers to bring to Ditto.

Hot Lunch Balances

We appreciate families keeping track of their hot lunch balances!  We submit low lunch balance emails twice a week.  If you have not gotten an email notice and your child takes hot lunch, perhaps we don’t have your current email.  Please email slambers@hollandchristian.org and she can update your emails.

To find out what your child’s current lunch balance (**also what choices they are making–high school, only) please go to sendmoneytoschool.com.  You will need your student’s ID # , this is a free service that you can see your child’s balance. You may pay online with a credit card at this site, there is a minimal service charge.

Lunch balances at the end of the year roll over to the next school year.  We do not refund lunch balances.  If you have a graduating senior we can transfer balances to siblings.

Thank you for participating in our lunch program.  We enjoy serving your children each day.

Love Does

As we approach Holy Week next week, our desire is to point our children to the cross and to the empty tomb. We also have much to learn from walking in Christ’s footsteps through the events leading up to Good Friday and Easter morning. In the upper room, you will remember, Jesus washed the feet of His disciples in act of loving servanthood. He challenged His disciples, and the words hold true for us today, “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.” John 13:17. We have an opportunity to move our children into action. It’s small, but we believe effective. Even though the water crisis in Flint has been replaced by other stories in the media’s attention, the people of Flint remain in need of clean water and supplies. Maple Avenue Ministries has partnered with several churches in Flint who are reeling due to several help centers recently closing their doors. Children in the region impacted by the unsafe water are in need of individually packaged toothbrushes as well as tubes of ProHealth Crest toothpaste (because that brand offers the amount of fluoride needed but is missing from the bottled water). Would you be willing to help? If you and your child can talk through the needs of the people in Flint and, following the lead of Christ, we can act as a servant and offer to reach out in love. Our collection of toothbrushes and toothpaste will be delivered on Wednesday, March 28, so we have a tight turn around. If you are willing to participate with your child, we believe the experience to bless and be blessed will be valuable.

3-Day Kindergarten

Just a reminder, our 3-day kindergarteners are growing! They will be joining us on Tuesdays for the duration of the school year. We’re excited to have these precious kinders in our midst four days a week after spring break!

Lost and Found

Be sure to take a look at our lost and found table between now and the end of conferences.  What is remaining will be donated to ditto during spring break.

After School & Before School Carpool Reminders

Just a reminder the front entrance doors and south side doors are open from 7:30 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. to access the building. All entrance doors will be locked down the rest of the school day. This is a new system-wide policy. If you need to enter the building after these hours, you must access the building at the front entrance (covered door area). The new security system and camera are on the wall just before the entrance doors. Please push the button and wait at the camera for recognition and further communication. Once you have been cleared to enter, the automatic door will make a clicking sound and will unlock. Please come to the office and sign in before proceeding to other areas of the building. Thank you for your cooperation and helping us keep your children safe!

1. Cars please do not use the entrance off 40th Street between 7:45am – 8:10am, and also 2:45pm and 3:30pm. This is for Bus use only.

2. Make sure the bus circle stays clear of cars at all times. We can make this easier for all if you pull forward as we do during pick-up, so there is plenty of room behind you for others to do the same. Busses need that extra room to turn around and use the 40th street exit and are on a tight route schedule for student drop off and pick up. We have had some close calls when busses swing out to make the turn around and cars have been stopped in the circle. During these drop off and pick up times, students should not be loading or unloading in the traffic circle!  This is for your safety as well as the children.

3.  If you plan on exiting your vehicle to pick up your child between 2:30pm and the end of the day, please park either North of the bike racks or along the woods side (far west side) of the parking lot.  This will keep the loading zone clear for parents to line up for after school parent pick up.

4.  When you are in the loading zone area, please do not pull forward (DO NOT LEAVE) until the teacher alerts you to do so.  We need to make sure all the students are safely loaded into vehicles within the loading zone, before cars start to move forward!

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping your children safe!
