Head of Schools Search
Dear Holland Christian Community,
It’s exciting to have some good news to share in these strange times. The Holland Christian Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Dr. Eric Forseth has accepted our offer to become our new Head of Schools at Holland Christian Schools, beginning with the 2020-21 school year!
As you know, last winter Dr. Jim Bultman was gracious enough to agree to serve as our Interim Superintendent while we searched for our next school leader. His leadership has been outstanding and has helped prepare our school for moving forward with a new Head of Schools.
The Search Committee that was formed last summer under the guidance of the Board consisted of school administrators, faculty, and board members/parents. We engaged in a nationwide search contracting Carter Baldwin to help guide us through this task. The Search Committee spent hundreds of hours defining the role, researching, interviewing, and evaluating dozens of highly qualified candidates from all over the nation—which ultimately resulted in the identification of a select few who best fit the qualifications and requirements to become Holland Christian’s next Head of Schools.
With much deliberation and prayer, the Board is unanimous in our certainty that God provided Eric Forseth with the experiences, talents, and leadership abilities to ensure we stay true to our Christ-centered mission in partnership with our families and churches. The Board remains convicted that it was the leading of our gracious God, and the prayers and support of the Holland Christian community that has not only led Eric to us, but also our Search Committee to nominate Eric as our Head of Schools.
Eric currently serves as provost of Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, a position he began in July 2013. Prior to Dordt University, Eric served as superintendent of Nampa Christian Schools in Idaho, and has more than 30 years of experience in PreK-12 and post-secondary education. He previously held vice president positions at Northwest Nazarene University and Mount Vernon Nazarene University. His Ph.D. is from Ohio State, M.S. from the University of Arizona, B.A. from Northwest Nazarene University, and he is an alumnus of Denver Christian Schools.
“It has been a tremendous seven-year run at Dordt University with Dr. Eric Forseth serving as our provost and chief academic officer. I believe he is well-equipped to lead in this new challenge to which God has called him. During his time here, Eric has provided solid leadership in a number of critical areas, and our curricular and co-curricular partnership to equip students as effective Kingdom citizens is as strong as it has been in our history.”
-Dr. Erik Hoekstra, Dordt president
Eric and his wife Kim are excited to join the Holland Christian community. They have two married adult children, Lindsay Grant and Nathan Forseth: Lindsay is a special education teacher and volleyball coach living in Weiser, Idaho, with her husband Ty, and their two elementary aged children. Nathan is a 2015 Dordt University graduate recently married to Rae Thompson, and he now serves as the plant manager of a Pella Windows and Door plant in Murray, Kentucky.
“We are impressed with Eric’s higher education and K-12 experience, as well as his natural desire to be a visible, engaged leader who ensures a trusting and healthy culture. We value his experience as a leader of leaders who is comfortable engaging students, faculty, parents, senior administrators, donors and community leaders. He understands, supports, and can readily articulate our educational philosophy for Reformed education. We are also confident he will be a faithful steward of our budget, endowment, and campus resources.”
-Stacy Jackson, Chair of the Search Committee
Eric sends the following message expressing his eagerness to serve the Holland Christian community:
“Our family is excited to lead with and alongside a talented leadership team and such dedicated faculty and staff. I see Holland Christian Schools as one of the top Christian school systems in the whole country. The Board, Carter Baldwin, and the Search Committee were thorough throughout the whole process, and their focus on the Holland Christian mission of equipping minds and nurturing hearts to transform the world for Jesus Christ was evident. We are personally looking forward to embracing the Holland community and want to stand on the shoulders of Dr. Jim Bultman, who has selflessly served this past year. We are excited to be leading this organization in promising times of shaping future leaders to transform the world for Jesus Christ.”
-Dr. Eric Forseth
We, the HC Board of Trustees, are extremely grateful for your trust and patience with us as we have sought to serve our mission, our families, our talented faculty and staff, our churches, and Christ throughout this process. We are blessed to find a candidate who we are confident will capably lead our school’s mission.
I’d like to especially thank all the members of our Search Committee, as well as those who have supported us in this process through trust and encouragement—but specifically for the many prayers that were crucial to the outcome. God was preparing the way long before we began this journey. Let’s now work together to welcome the Forseths to our vibrant community!
