Maroon Messenger: June 2018
The 2017-18 school year is in the books! Like every school year, there are highs and lows, surprises and normalcy. This year was no exception, and I can confidently state that this was a good school year.
Join me in congratulating the 2018 graduated class from Holland Christian High School. These 173 Seniors celebrated their graduation on May 22 and we wish them well as they leave us to do whatever they are being called to do, both in the near future as well as for the rest of their lives.
I want to wish you and your families a safe and relaxing summer. If you have any questions during the summer about school, please call the High School office at (616) 820-2905 and Kelli Van Eerden or Charity VanderLaan will help you. We say goodbye and thank you to teachers Jim Caserta, Chuck Commeret, Jed Grooters, Hillary Klipp-Lopez, Ben Monsma, and Chris VanNoord who will not be returning to HCHS next fall. We are currently working to fill these positions and will communicate with you next fall whom God has called to fill the gaps and holes.
And as you know, I also won’t be back at HCHS serving as Principal and so this is my final Maroon Messenger blurb to you parents. Thank you for your partnership and for your support for HCHS. I have so appreciated partnering with you and working on behalf of this school and your children. I am planning on June 22 being my last day so if there is something that I can help you with yet before I turn in my keys, please contact me before then. I want to encourage all of you to be supportive of Dr. Kristy Taylor as she assumes her role as Interim HCHS Principal. She can be contacted at email@example.com and will be officially sitting in the chair starting Monday, July 2.
I would like to leave you with words from the Text from Paul’s farewell chapter (chapter 4) to the church at Philippi;
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

How to get your 17/18 grades online after June 7
- Log in to PowerSchool as either parent or student.
- Click on the “Grades History” icon on the left.
- Grades for the current school year will be listed
The columns for 2nd semester are:A2 (18 weeks of coursework), E2 (2nd semester exam), and S2 (2nd semester final grade – this is the important one that appears on transcripts and determines cumulative GPA).

Join us in a Random Acts of Kindness Day on June 19th (the anniversary of the accident). Imagine the Christian wave of kindness we can make! Riley had such a warm heart, kind spirit, and big smile. We want everyone to feel it on June 19. Join our Facebook page, “Riley’s Kindness” to receive ideas and to share the kind gesture you gave (or received!). There are business cards in the school offices for you to hand out to the recipients of your kindness so they will learn the meaning behind our actions on this day! Please join us in spreading Riley’s kindness!
Diplomas and Transcripts for Class of 2018
Graduates please remember to pick up your diploma in the High School Office during the week of June 18 – 22. Diplomas can be picked up anytime between 7:30 am and 3 pm. Diplomas will not be mailed. If a final transcript needs to be sent to your college please request it via your Parchment account, if you haven’t already done so. Beginning August 1, 2018, any requests you make on your Parchment account are no longer free.
Senior Camp, Class of 2019
It is not too late to sign up for the Senior Camp on August 12 and 13. We would love to have 100% participation. Please complete the forms emailed to you as soon as possible.
School Start Letter
Watch for your school start letter to be emailed at the beginning of August. To ensure that we have the correct email addresses, home contact information and emergency contact information for you, please check and update your information in PowerSchool using the instructions located here. If you do not have a PowerSchool account yet, please watch for emails in August with the information you need to either create an account or add a new child to your account.

Transportation Options for the 2018-19 school year
Holland Public Transportation Information for the 2018-19 school year
A registration form must be filled out for every Holland Christian student desiring transportation through Holland Public busing (even if you have used HPS busing in previous years). Please mail the completed form to the HPS Transportation Department by June 4. To get the registration form please click here: Holland Public Busing Form. Holland Public busing is FREE. You will be notified mid-August of the stop location, pick-up and drop-off times. Any questions, please contact Holland Public Schools Transportation at (616) 494-2950.
South Side Transportation Information for 2018-19 school year
For families living outside of the Holland Public transportation district, Holland Christian offers busing options. Please go to the HC Transportation website to learn more and register online. Deadline for registration is June 4. If you have questions contact Dan Vos at (616) 820-2805.
Rose Park/West Ottawa Busing Information and Registration
All 2018-2019 busing information and instructions on how to access and register for busing next year is now available at Rose Park/West Ottawa Bus Transportation Form. There you will find a link to the online registration form you will need to register your student(s) for busing. You will also find contact information if you have any further questions. This is also where you can sign up for the shuttle bus from Rose Park to HCMS/HCHS. Deadline for registration is June 4. West Ottawa busing will begin on Tuesday, August 28, 2018.
Zeeland School District Busing Information and Registration
Families of Holland Christian High School students who reside in the Zeeland School District, and need busing to/from Zeeland. Complete the student transportation form, and return to Zeeland Public Schools. Contact Jean Livingston at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC INFORMATION
- Summer Sports Camps are available for students of all ages in a wide variety of sports. Details of each camp, along with online sign-up, can be found at Summer Sports Camps.

- Athletic Physical Forms must be turned in before tryouts
- Impact Testing: If you are going to be playing a sport at Holland Christian in the 2018-2019 school year and you will be a Freshman, Junior, or new to Holland Christian you are required to take the impact test before playing any sport. Signups will be held this summer! All IMPACT testing will take place in room 243 at the High School. Please follow the link and pick a time that works best for you. Health Plans/Medications for 2018/19 school year
A reminder to get school health plans and medication orders completed by your child’s physician this summer so we have those on the first day of class in August. The forms are available on the website under parent resources. Please call or email Jane Borr, School Nurse Consultant with any questions at (616) 394-3414 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

Upcoming ACT and SAT dates are set, if you would like to plan ahead.
ACT – September 8, 2018 (registration deadline August 10), October 27, 2018 (registration deadline September 28), and December 8, 2018 (registration deadline November 2). HCHS is a testing site for all the ACT dates. Go to www.act.org to register.
SAT – August 25, 2018 (registration deadline July 28), October 6, 2018 (registration deadline September 7), November 3, 2018 (registration deadline October 5) and December 1, 2018 (registration deadline November 2). HCHS will be a testing site for the November 3 test. Go to www.sat.org to register.
