Middle School Newsletter: November 2018
Dear Middle School Parents and Families,
Welcome to chilly November! As I walked into school this morning there was something white floating around but I am not going to believe it is snow!!!
November is a month full of fun and exciting “extras”. One of those extras is the opportunity to attend the Veteran’s Day assembly to honor the brave men and women who have followed the call to serve our country to project our freedom. One of those freedoms that is central to our lives as christians is the freedom of religion. While serving as missionaries in southern Mexico I had the opportunity to experience what it is like to live in a place where that freedom does not exist. I lived with brothers and sisters in Christ who, because of their faith, were kicked out of their communities, lost all their possessions (including their houses being burned), had been injured and some even had lost family members who were killed for professing that Jesus was their Lord and Savior. I was humbled by their example and the depth of their faith and their willingness to truly lose it all to follow Christ. Everyday when I walk through the doors at Holland Christian Middle School I thank God for the religious freedoms we have and that we can attend our school without the fear of persecution. Please join me in praying daily for our school, the students and the staff.
Also next week we will eat lunch at the high school and attend Cinderella. It is a great opportunity to experience the play but also to experience participating in life at the high school.
As we head into the end of the month we will be celebrating Thanksgiving. In response to how blessed and thankful we are for all the gifts God has given us we want to share those gifts with others so we will be having our second ever “Food Fight” (details below). It is so exciting when we as a school community can come together to act in a way, no matter how small, that “transforms the world for Jesus Christ”. Please know how thankful we are for each and every one of you and the gifts that you bring to this community.

Next week Monday, November 12, we will launch our second ever HCMS “Food Fight” to raise awareness and donations for our neighbor, Providence CRC, and it’s outreach, the Care Closet. The Care Closet provides food for numerous needy families in our area and Providence CRC needs our help to increase their supplies of non-perishable foods for these families. So, that’s where we come into the picture… Items they need: Cereal, Soup, Mac and Cheese, Stove Top Stuffing, Pancake Mix, Tuna, Canned Corn, Canned Green Beans, Spaghetti O’s, Prego, Pork and Beans, Bush Beans. The “Food Fight” runs until next Friday, November 16.
Ski Club is ready to launch its 2018-2019 season! Students grades 6-8 pay $24.00 ($7 goes to club expense/transportation); adults and sibling passes are available for $17. Bittersweet forms as well as dates, discount and bussing information are available in the office. Signed forms and check/cash needs to be in to the school office by November 16. This is a hard deadline, so don’t delay!
