Middle School Newsletter: June 2018
Dear parents and families,
Another year in the books! Welcome to summer 2018! On Thursday the 7th graders prayed for the 8th graders as they took off for their last time at the middle school. It was a beautiful picture. 8th grade left on a field trip to Michigan Adventure, and the 7th grade students prayed for safety, summers, and transition into the high school. I even got a little teary eyed (I am not even sure why – I am moving over to the High School with them:) Congratulations 8th grade students for finishing and completing Middle School strong.
Returning students, the teachers look forward to seeing you in August as you become the leaders of the building. May God continue to raise you up to be strong and courageous.

Grades will be available on PowerSchool at 8am Thursday, June 7. Please check in PowerSchool then to see the benefits of all your student’s hard work this school year!
Busing Signups for 2018-2019
Holland Public Transportation Information for the 2018-19 school year. A registration form must be filled out for every Holland Christian student desiring transportation through Holland Public busing (even if you have used HPS busing in previous years). Please mail the completed form to the HPS Transportation Department by June 4. To get the registration form please click here: Holland Public Busing Form. Holland Public busing is FREE. You will be notified mid-August of the stop location, pick-up and drop-off times. Any questions, please contact Holland Public Schools Transportation at (616) 494-2950.
South Side Transportation Information for 2018-19 school year. For families living outside of the Holland Public transportation district, Holland Christian offers busing options. Please go to the HC Transportation website to learn more and register online. Deadline for registration is June 4. If you have questions contact Dan Vos at (616) 820-2805.
Rose Park/West Ottawa Transportation Information for the 2018-19 school year. All 2018-2019 busing information and instructions on how to access and register for busing next year, including the shuttle to and from the MS and HS, is now available at Rose Park/West Ottawa Bus Transportation Form. There you will find a link to the online registration form you will need to register your student(s) for busing. You will also find contact information if you have any further questions. Deadline for registration is June 4. West Ottawa busing will begin on August 28, 2018.
Health Plans/Medications for 2018-2019 School Year
A reminder to get school health plans and medication orders completed by your child’s physician this summer so we have those on the first day of class in August. The forms are available on the website under parent resources. Please call or email Jane Borr, School Nurse Consultant with any questions at (616) 394-3414 or email@example.com.
Immunizations For Rising 7th Graders
Immunization Requirements for rising 7th Graders: Please schedule a call/visit with your primary care physician to discuss any immunization needs for your child. All students MUST be up-to-date on their immunizations BEFORE they start the new school year. Any students without the required immunizations or approved waivers will not be allowed to enter school until they are complete and approved by the State of Michigan. Please see the attached link for an information sheet listing immunization needs.
Middle school students, plan on being at the middle school on Monday, August 20 from 10am-2pm to learn about middle school. More information will be emailed this summer.
2018-2019 BOC Schedules
As we plan to build student schedules for the 2018-2019 school year, we will plan to schedule your 7th grade student in their current Band, Orchestra or Choir (BOC) class. If they wish to move to a different music class, please inform us by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, indicating Band, Orchestra or Choir before Friday, June 8. Rising 7th graders should also email Mrs. Dozeman with their choice. As stated before, every student must choose either Band, Orchestra or Choir; no study halls will be offered. Thank you!
Summer Hours at HCMS
Our office will be open from 9am – 2pm Monday, June 4 – Friday, June 8. Please plan to pick up any forgotten items before then. Lost and found articles will be brought to Ditto, our re-sale store, after June 6.
Beginning Monday, July 30, Mrs. Dozeman and Mrs. Zwiep will be in the office Mondays – Thursdays, 9am – 2pm, until Orientation Day on Monday, August 20.
Hot Lunch News:
Thank you for allowing us to serve your students hot lunch this school year. We appreciate your participation and feedback. It’s that time of year, when we need to button up—end of the year accounting. We appreciate you taking care of any negative balances. All positive balances roll over to the 2018-2019 school year. Next week balances need to be paid online at sendmoneytoschool.com or dropped off at the Administration Office at the southwest side of the high school. HC Summer Camps
Registration is still open for summer camps at HCS. We are excited to offer a variety of distinctively Christian camps for all ages (there are even some options for adults). Check out our offerings here. Camps are offered starting June 4 and through August 10. Some sections are filling up fast and others need people to sign up soon or they will be cancelled, so don’t delay – sign up today!
Summer Golf Opportunities with HC
- Monday nights starting June 11 at 7pm at Winding Creek Gold Club: Open Play $5 for HS and MS students. There will be a coach or adult present to supervise.
- First Tee @ Winding Creek Golf Club in Spring or Fall for Ages 7-17
