Middle School May Newsletter
My personal theme this year, at times, has been “from clunky to smooth.” I would like to report that at the present moment (always ready to pivot) the middle school is closer to smooth than clunky. I personally credit the work of our fine staff and the students (your kids) for making that happen. This has been especially noticeable as I have been blessed to be able to do tours with new families from Maryland, Texas, Arizona, Indiana, Colorado and the surrounding area that are interested in coming to HC. Both the students and the parents of these tours have been impressed by our middle school. As I was closing out one tour, I asked the potential student if she had any questions, and she said, with a big smile on her face, “Can I start tomorrow?” The families who tour are impressed with the student engagement they see in each class, the welcoming and positive atmosphere provided by the staff and students, and the opportunities the students of our middle school have. Even though the building is newly renovated, we know this place is special not just because of the building, but because of the community we have here at the middle school. We know it isn’t always perfect, but as we continue to both equip minds and nurture hearts to transform the world for Christ, this is a special place. This is where you come in as well. As I talk about community and welcoming and bringing in new families, I want you to know that you are part of that community as well. As we think about your impact on HC and the village of Holland and beyond, it is beneficial for you to speak and write positively about the middle school as we partner together during these challenging times. I had a tour last week where the parents mentioned they were checking out our middle school because of the positive things that an HC parent had shared with them. It is invitations like that, that bring in tours that allow us to show people what makes our schools special.
Thank you for also partnering with the middle school as we guide each student so they can flourish. We covet your prayers and positive words as we continue in the journey of Equipping Minds and Nurturing Hearts to Transform the world for Jesus Christ. (Note: we can’t wait for you to see these words newly written on the wall in the Alley!)
As I prepare to celebrate my wife Karen and my 34th wedding anniversary later this month I am reminded of our wedding text:
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” -Colossians 3:17
May we all do this each and every day as we work together to raise the young and share Jesus’ love with each other.

2021-2022 BOC Schedules
As we plan to build student schedules for the 2021-2022 school year, we will plan to schedule your rising 7th or 8th grade student in their current Band, Orchestra or Choir (BOC) class. If they wish to move to a different music class, please inform us by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, indicating Band, Orchestra or Choir before Friday, June 4. Rising 6th graders should also email the MS office with their choice. As stated before, every student must choose either Band, Orchestra or Choir; no study halls will be offered. Thank you!
