Middle School Newsletter – October 2021
Dear HCMS parents and families,
As the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to change, we have hit the ground running at the middle school. It is hard to believe it, but we are already close to the end of the first quarter at the end of this month. We know the fall is a very busy time for families, but please make sure you check in with your students to see how they have been adjusting to being back at school.
Additionally, we look forward to seeing you for parent teacher conferences on October 7 from 3:30 to 6:30 and October 14 from 5:30 to 8:30. If you haven’t already, please remember to sign up for conferences online ASAP. Please make sure you have at least 5 minutes between each conference so you have time to walk between classrooms.
This year the middle school joined the elementary schools in being a part of the Walkathon. Thanks to all who donated! The middle schoolers brought in over $12,000 that we now can use to purchase items for our new house system, equipment for the students to use during recess times, and supplies to enhance the students’ learning experience. During the Walkathon the 8th graders guided the kindergartners through the event, the 7th graders ran the games and the 6th grade students encouraged other students and did various tasks to help the event go smoothly. There were a lot of positive comments about how well the middle schoolers did in their various roles. The students did a great job of stepping up and being great leaders.
I shared the following words with our staff last week:
Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
These words which were written almost 2000 years ago are still very true today. As you read these words, which ones resonate with you? This week, the part that spoke to me were the words that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. They spoke to me because this is a truth we need to continue to spread to each other and to our middle schoolers. I believe we should also model and point out that, rather than being anxious, God tells us to go to him in prayer that is filled with thanksgiving, and present our requests to God. I pray that each of us can do that both at school and in our personal lives. I hope you have a joyful weekend!
