MS Newsletter – December 2019
Greetings to all.
As I sit here listening to O Come All Ye Faithful, I am reminded how great it is to adore our Lord and Savior during this period of advent. I pray that we continually adore Jesus and follow his example of bringing the gift of Jesus to those around us. As we go about our days, we need to continually bring shalom to the chaos. My hope and prayer is that we work at doing this with our own families as well as with our church families. During this Christmas season, one area we can focus on in our personal families is how we spend our time. I was talking to a teacher today who has seen how our students are so into being entertained on all the screens that are around them. A lot of our students jump to YouTube, Tik Tok and other social media sites, Fortnite and other games. We are finding that students spend a lot of time consuming entertainment when they have free time. I wonder at what point we help each other use our time more wisely. I challenge each of us to consider first, how we each spend our time and secondly, how are our kids spending their time. It is so important for our kids to have boundaries and an understanding of what the important things are in life. Here is a Ted Talk that gives some perspective into how what we do with free time has changed over the last decade. Below is a graph from the Ted Talk I found interesting. It depicts how the average adult spends their time. The red and white together equals the amount of free time we have each day. The red is the amount of time we spend on screens. It seems we may need to adjust the amount of time we spend on screens as adults and help guide our kids to do the same. As we ponder the coming of Jesus, this is as good as time as any to do so.
