Rose Park News 4/26/19
Dear Rose Park Family and Friends,
So much learning. So much going on everyday. Students are engaged, active, and invested in the business of learning every day. And I am reminded yet again that we have the best staff at Rose Park. They are always positive, drawing out the best in our kids whether in or out of the classroom. Little fazes this team. They are flexible, adaptive, fun, always making the best out of every situation. I’m proud of them. I’m so grateful for each one whom God has brought to the team here at Rose Park. And they so love your children. Already, they are getting choked up and emotional to think about the soon-approaching end of the year when they will say goodbye to the students in their classrooms. I so love witnessing the bond that develops between teacher and student. It is strong, indeed, and part of the glue for us as a Rose Park community. Join me in expressing your gratitude to and for these wonderful staff members when you have the opportunity, please. They will be blessed. And, by the way, next week I’ll share with you a fresh look to the team at Rose Park that God is putting together for his good purposes, and the next season at Rose Park. I’m eager to share that with you. Stay tuned.
Now, may you bless and be blessed this weekend in rest, recreation, and in awe-filled worship. This has been another growth, meaning and joy-filled week at Rose Park, partnering with you and the rest of the staff, equipping young and eager minds, nurturing soft and tender hearts, to transform the world for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

6th Grade Parents and Students – Join us for the Middle School Mashup – May 6, 7:30 pm
It’s a little bit open house, a little bit of an information night – it’s our Middle School Mashup! Current HC 6th grade parents and students and any family considering enrollment at Holland Christian Middle School for the 2019-20 school year are invited to come and preview what it’s like at the Middle School. Take a tour, listen to current middle school students talk about life at HCMS, and find how to to dive in to all the opportunities available to students both during and after school. It’s going to be a great night you won’t want to miss.
In honor of Teachers Appreciation Week quickly approaching, we have gathered a Wish List from the Teachers of items that would be a blessing to them. Please check out the link below in order to see what items they may need. This link will continue to be updated as items are purchased, so please continue to check back in the coming days! Any items purchased can either be shipped directly to the school or items can be dropped off the the school office by May 6.
Summer Slide Reading Opportunity
South Side, Forest School and Rose Park would like to invite you to join us in redefining “summer slide” for our kindergarten through second grade children. Students and teachers have worked so diligently throughout this school year developing our children as readers. Parents have been a huge support in this exciting effort and we thank you! It won’t be long and we’ll be sending our students out of school for all sorts of wonderful summer adventures! However, particularly for our emergent readers, summer can impose a looming threat to young readers’ newly acquired reading ability. Not only must children read regularly throughout the summer in order to maintain their ability, they must also read books at their individual instructional reading level. To that end, we’d love to offer you a brand new invitation! Current kindergarten through second grade parents, you are invited to participate in our HC Summer Slide Party Program! What does that entail you ask? Well, I’m glad you asked! ( 😉 ). We will begin, for parents who RSVP on behalf of their child by May 15 via email, with a 30-minute crash course in reading instruction with Miska. We’ll hold our reading instruction night for parents, both South Side and Pine Ridge, on May 28 at 6:00 in the gym at South Side. At this meeting, South Side and Rose Park parents who have notified us via RSVP by May 15 will receive 50 paper books! One book for every week day of the summer at each child’s instructional level. Miska will share our grade-level reading goals with you and help you become familiar with techniques and strategies you might find helpful over the summer months. Now, here comes the real fun part! Because our students’ reading levels won’t suffer from the typical slide downhill due to consistent, targeted reading, let’s send our hard working readers down a slide! We will rent a big inflatable slide and hold a Summer Slide Party on the playground of Rose Park at the end of July! At this fun event, your child can bring their favorite book to the playground to read to some of our teachers and then, set that book aside and do some fun sliding!
Because the cost of the slide and individualized books are outside of our operating costs, we ask that you contribute $15 to participate. In order to prepare your child’s personalized reading books and goals, we’ll need some advance notice of your family’s interest. Please RSVP by May 15 to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll begin your child’s materials!
Hmmm…this is brand new. What questions do you have? Feel free to send Miska an email or call either school office for clarification.
Happy Reading and Happy Sliding!
The week of May 6-10 (Tulip Time week!) is the last week for students to borrow books from Rose Park Library. All student materials are due by May 17.

New Athletic Information for 2019-20
Attention current 5th & 6th Grade students who are interested in joining the MS sports teams for the 2019-20 school year! Holland Christian will be Rolling out a new athletic online registration system. Holland Christian Schools is now partnered with FinalForms, an athlete online registration company. This email notification is for all parents of current students grades 5-11, but intended only for students interested in participating in any sport for the 2019-20 school year (grades 6-12… 6th graders are limited to participation in cross country, tennis, swimming & diving and track & field). We are excited about this new relationship with benefits for our athletes and families including a streamlined athletic physical process, more efficient communication and online pay to participate fee collection. April 15 is the first day students can complete the MHSAA required athletic physical for the 2019-20 school year in order to participate on a school athletic team. Our partnership with FinalForms requires you to register your child online for sports at Holland Christian in order to print the needed MHSAA physical form for your MD/DO/PA/NP to complete. With April 15 fast approaching, we want to ensure parents understand the new process for registering online before completing the annual MHSAA physical. If you already signed up for Holland Christian’s physical night on April 30 or plan to have your child’s athletic physical completed at your primary care physician before participation, please register your athlete online before doing so by following the instructions at the following link: https://www.hollandchristian.org/athletics/handbooks-forms/
If you still desire to sign up for an appointment at the Holland Christian physical night on April 30, 2019 for the 2019-20 school year, please sign up at the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0c4eafaf2aa46-athletic
Procedures and requirements such as these are important for our organization to run efficiently and safely. Thank you for your efforts to assist us in extending the classroom and put knowing God on display through athletics at Holland Christian.
