Rose Park News 10/12/18
Dear Rose Park Family and Friends,
Our first quarter of the year is already officially over as of today! Can you believe it? The staff and I have amazing front row seats every day to witness the growth God is bringing in our students after 9 short weeks. One of the areas I am delighted to see is how we are living into our theme this year, as well as our mission and goals. Rose Park is growing in its being a community of learners where everyone has a place at the table. We have a variety of students with specific learning abilities and needs. We have Spanish Immersion students who speak another language than most in the building most of the day. We are very intentional to grow staff and students to understand what this means to prepare a table well for the students we have at Rose Park.
I see 6th grade boys meet and usher in a special Kindergarten boy each day. They hold hands. They stop and admire the fish in the office aquarium before accompanying him to his locker and classroom, and to the care of his teacher. I see a trio of girls on the tire swing at recess. Where two years ago there was fear because of some difference, now there is invitation and joy in sharing a swing together.
These are two simple examples from this week alone. Baby steps? Perhaps. Yet they represent major strides we are making as a Christian school community to be Kingdom people who prepare a table well for each other with hospitality and intentionality. I’m proud of our students. I’m proud of our staff. I am grateful for the Heart of God, Kingdom glimpses we get to see every day. I invite you to watch for and expect them, too, when you have opportunity to spend time in the building at Rose Park. Are we perfect? Far from it. Yet, in our weakness, in our own brokenness, we take great joy and encouragement in recognizing these gifts of God’s Spirit and presence among us, blessing our efforts.
As always, I pray that you may bless and be blessed this weekend with your families in rest, recreation, and in awe-filled worship. We are grateful to partner with you in equipping young and eager minds, nurturing soft and tender hearts, to transform the world for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It’s been a great first week, and we look forward to seeing your children again next week to love them and learn along with them.
Holland Christian Auction Tomorrow, October 13
We’re setting the tables and putting items on display for you to “Dine, Bid and Be Charitable” tomorrow starting at 6! We’re so looking forward to seeing you at tomorrow’s auction. We’d appreciate your prayers over the event. If you can not attend, but would still like to donate to the Tuition Grant Fund, we’d welcome your contribution! https://www.hollandchristian.org/donate/
If you ordered school pictures for your child, they were sent home last week. Please note that picture retakes will take place on Thursday, November 1, starting at 8:15 AM. Please save your entire picture packet to return to the photographer that day. Also, if your student was absent during the first round of pictures, they will have their picture taken on this date. Thanks so much.
Items Needed in the Art Room!
Mrs. Luce is in need of a few supplies for our art room:
- wide mouth yogurt cups (Chobani cups work well)
- peanut butter lids
Please leave these items with Mrs. Chase or Mrs. Steenwyk and we will make sure they get to Mrs. Luce. Thank you!
Dressing for the Weather
Michigan weather continues to keep us on our toes! Our weather can change from the morning to the afternoon. Please do know, our students are outside for recess multiple times a day. We encourage you to check the weather and plan your child’s clothing accordingly. The office has a very limited supply of warm gear to lend out, and we want to be sure our kids are enjoying their time in the fresh air. Thank you!
A.C.E Classes Are Back!
After School Enrichment classes will be offered on Tuesdays this fall at Rose Park. The classes offered include “Introduction to Martial Arts”, “Tech Lab Junior: Intro to the OSMO (for K-2nd”, “Baila Zumba” (for 3rd-6th graders), and “Create…Kindness in a Card!”. A brochure with more information on these classes was sent home last week. The sign up period is open NOW until October 22nd. Classes sizes are limited, so be sure to register early! Questions? Contact Sue Vos (firstname.lastname@example.org).
You are always welcome to join us for our all-school chapels on Wednesday mornings at 10:35 AM in the gymeterium. We welcome parents and friends to join us in worship as we discover how we can grow in preparing a table of welcome and hospitality.
