Rose Park News Blog, 1/19/18
Dear Rose Park Family and Friends,
Anyone who knows me even a little bit knows that I love this time of year! By this time of year, I mean this season of Discovery Night, tours, conversations, meeting new parents. I love introducing new parents to Holland Christian Schools. I am so blessed meeting prospective parents whom I remember as students in my HCHS Bible class, and seeing the families with which God has blessed them. I am blessed to meet parents I have never met before and share my love for God, for children, and Christian education. I love sharing my story of Christian education, which includes being a student at HC, parent of 3 HC grads, teacher and administrator at HC, as well as undergrad and grad degrees from Calvin College. My life has been awash in Christian education, and I am so blessed and so grateful. I heard a parent describe her experience, appreciation, and desire for her children and Christian education this way. She recognized the power of having had her life “marinate” in Christian education. Now, I realize that every metaphor has a breaking point if pushed too far, but I like this. There is a marinating effect. By spending time with Christian teachers, by hearing and retelling Bible stories, by learning everything we learn through the lens of Scripture, and doing our discipleship practices, our children are being immersed in the most marvelous of marinades with a tasty variety of God-flavors in the mix. All of this marinating results in a delicious and colorful life that brings flavor and life to others in bringing the Kingdom, cultivating shalom, and transforming the world for Jesus Christ. Please, tell your stories! Accompany someone to Discovery Night this coming Thursday evening, or anytime into the building. And, please, guide anyone you desire to my office at Rose Park where I would love to listen to their story and introduce them to Holland Christian Schools, and the special experience of Rose Park Christian School.
Now, in that spirit, may you bless and be blessed this weekend in rest, recreation, and in awe-filled worship. This has been another growth, meaning and joy-filled week at Rose Park, partnering with you and the rest of the staff, equipping young and eager minds, nurturing soft and tender hearts, to transform the world for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Both nights will also include a presentation about Spanish Immersion and our vision for the new program. Please help spread the word! Invite your friends and family to the Discovery Nights and share with them your own experience here.

Thank you for all of your continued outpouring of love, care, support, and prayers for Dirk Hollebeek and his family (RP family and HCMS Principal). They are so grateful. Also, please pray for Troy Dokter (RP family and HCS Development Director) as he goes through another round of chemotherapy, as well. Thank you for your continued love and care for the Dokter family on their journey.
There certainly are others in the Rose Park family who are going through different experiences causing chaos currently. We mention Troy and Dirk here specifically as staff members who desire and are so grateful for the prayer support of this community. We have lots of opportunities for God to use each one of us to cultivate shalom where there is chaos in our midst. This kind of grace-breathing overflow of love and kindness that we practice is a hallmark of the Rose Park and Holland Christian community, for which we are so grateful.
With flu season upon us we want to you of a few guidelines we have in place at Rose Park. If your child is not feeling well, please keep him/her home. Students must be fever free for 24 hours without use of a fever reducing medication before he/she may return to school. Please let us know each day your child will be absent. You may call and talk to us directly, leave a message on the 24 hour-a-day voice mail, or you may email Mrs. Steenwyk at firstname.lastname@example.org or Mrs. Chase at email@example.com. If your child has an appointment during the day, please email the teacher or send a note stating the time you will pick up your child. We will have your child waiting for your arrival in the office.

Securing the Building
Rose Park is blessed with a beautiful facility and it is getting used more than ever with after school and evening gym rentals. As with the rest of our HC facilities, we continue to look for ways that we can secure the rest of the building while making the gym open for rental use. Consequently, if you are ever here in the evenings, you may find areas of the building secured that haven’t been to this point. Thank you for understanding our desire to keep our building, its people and contents as secure as possible during the day and after hours, as well.
