Rose Park News 11/16/18
Dear Rose Park Family and Friends,
One of the guiding arcs of the Biblical Narrative for us at Holland Christian Schools is summarized in God’s revelation of himself in Scripture as a God who brings Shalom to Chaos. Not only does God reveal himself that way from beginning to end, but we also affirm that God invites us to join him in this mission of bringing shalom to the chaos of our world and people’s lives. Shalom, says Dr. Neal Plantinga, is the webbing together of God, people, and all creation in justice, fulfillment, and delight. We all long for that good life, don’t we? We all long for shalom. God is the God who speaks shalom to what was formless and empty in the opening words of Genesis. God brings shalom, and it was good! Again, we listen for God’s invitation and call to join him in bringing shalom to chaos using the tools of all that we are learning every day.
One of the ways God reminded his people of his shalom-bringing in their lives was in his command for his people to celebrate Sukkot when they remembered God’s faithfulness and lovingkindness to them in the wilderness, and God’s providence experienced in the rain and harvest annually. As our first graders learn all about this practice in their Bible time, they are preparing a Sukkot feast and celebration for themselves and parents and grandparents. They will be sharing what they have learned and how it has deepened their own thanksgiving. This week high school students joined our first graders to help them build their own booths, or sukkahs in the gymeterium. In our thanksgiving we are thinking about how God’s goodness to us overflows into others around us.
So, I am reminded this week of our mission this week as we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving. How are you bringing shalom to chaos with your life today? Whose life is flourishing more for having your Spirit-filled presence in it bringing a measure of shalom. Where will you with your family bring shalom to someone, somewhere this weekend? There is plenty of chaos around us today. By the power of the Holy Spirit, let’s join our God in bringing shalom wherever we can.
As always, I pray that you may bless and be blessed this weekend with your families in rest, recreation, and in awe-filled worship. We are grateful to partner with you in equipping young and eager minds, nurturing soft and tender hearts, to transform the world for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Bussing on Wednesday, November 21

Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Rose Park just on time for Christmas! Profits from the Scholastic Book Fair provide much needed funds for our library to purchase books for students. On Tuesday, November 27, students will create a wish list that they will either bring home to show you or share with you via email. Please ask your student about their wish list.
Then you can either:
1. Look over your child’s list and decide together which books to purchase. Send the list and cash or check made out to Holland Christian Schools back to school with your student who can visit the book fair during the school day to purchase the items agreed upon. Please remember to INCLUDE sales tax! (Choose CAREFULLY, we will not be able to do refunds this year!)
2. Bring the wish list to school and purchase items yourself to keep the books a surprise for Christmas! Teachers will have wish lists there too in case you would like to bless their classrooms with a book for Christmas… the Book Fair committee will even wrap it for you! The Book Fair is opening early on some days and staying open into the evening on other nights to be sure everyone is able to stop by and shop!
Tuesday, November 27 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
Wednesday, November 28 from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
Thursday, November 29 from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm
Friday, November 30 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm
3. Using the Scholastic Book Fair App, you can purchase items online that will count towards our Book Fair totals. The online shop contains many products that are not at our fair, so be sure to use the search option to look for products. This is a great way to allow out of town family members shop for items from your child’s Christmas list. All items ordered on line will be shipped to the school on time for Christmas. More details about this will be sent home with your student.
If you would like to shop WITH your child you can stop by school while classes are making lists on November 27…your child’s teacher should be sharing more details with you about when classes will be visiting the book fair.
Lastly, we can’t run this event without volunteers. Here is a link to a Sign-up Genius. We’d really appreciate the help! If you have any questions or comments please talk to Jamie Isanhart.

Do you have extra winter gear?
The Rose Park office has a limited supply of winter gear to loan to our kiddos. If you have gloves, snow pants, or even jackets that your child has outgrown, we could put them to good use! Thanks for your help!
The boots have come out, and it is snowy and wet outside. This is a friendly reminder our students need a pair of indoor shoes to wear while at school. Thanks for keeping our classrooms clean and dry!
