Rose Park News 12/14/18
Dear Rose Park Family and Friends,
Today our 1st graders blessed our high school students and staff in the high school chapel with their telling of the Christmas story from Luke 2. They’ll do it again in marvelous childlike wonder, costumes and all, next Tuesday for parents, grandparents, and friends at their annual program, and then Wednesday at chapel for all of us at Rose Park. These are annual experiences I always eagerly anticipate.
One of my favorite parts of their recitation is when they get to the part where the angels appear to the shepherds, and all of the students exclaim while grabbing onto each other, “…and they were terrified!” (Hear great emphasis on the word “terrified!”) This brings a smile to every audience who hears this. It’s a smile at the cute way in which the kids portray the emotions of the shepherds. But, perhaps, it’s a knowing smile, realizing that each in our own ways know what it is to be afraid, to be scared, even terrified. Fear is all too present, even encouraged, all around us today…in our world, in our culture, in our school, in our families, and in our own lives. Some of it is very understandable, and it seems to be everywhere. Maybe that’s why we smile, too.
But, that’s not the end of the Story. There is more.
The angels proclaim, “Do not be afraid! We bring Good News! A Savior has been born to you….” You know the rest of the Story. Do not be afraid. A Savior has been born. A Savior has come. A Savior is coming again. Our Savior is here. What good news for this Advent and Christmas season!
May you anticipate, know, and experience the Good News of Jesus’s birth, and the anticipation of his coming again. May you experience with your families during this season the peace and joy that comes with that message. Do not be afraid. Do not be afraid. A Savior has been born. A Savior has come. A Savior is coming again. Our Savior is here.
As always, I pray that you may bless and be blessed this 3rd Advent weekend with your families in rest, recreation, and in awe-filled worship. We are grateful to partner with you in equipping young and eager minds, nurturing soft and tender hearts, to transform the world for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Upcoming HCS Concert Announcement:
The High School Music Department invites you to its annual band, orchestra and choir Christmas concert on Saturday, December 15, in the Jack H. Miller Center for the Musical Arts, located on the campus of Hope College. We will be offering two performance times for those who would like to attend: one at 2:00 pm and one at 4:00 pm. Beginning Monday, November 19, a link will be posted on the Holland Christian homepage that will allow attendees to make a reservation for which concert they will attend. Those who do not have access to the internet will be able to make reservations through the high school front office. The number of reservations for each of the performances will be limited. In this way we hope to be able to offer a seat to everyone who would like to attend. We look forward to sharing in the celebration of our Savior’s birth through our music.
