Rose Park News Blog, 3/2/18

Dear Rose Park Family and Friends,

A couple of weeks ago, it was 2nd grade book characters, students dressed up as characters from their books, who came into my office to share who each one was with great excitement for the books they had read. This week it was 4th grade Market Day where students make products which they market and sell to the rest of the student body at Rose Park for an afternoon. They learn key principles of supply and demand, profit and loss, and more. This year I learned of two students specifically who experienced unique and special dimensions to add to their learning experience. One student talked with her mom about the privilege of such ready and easy access to the resources needed to create her product. What an incredible life lesson! Another student decided to donate half of her proceeds toward clean water in Nepal. I’ve never seen that before in my time at Rose Park! What a wonderful heart and attitude for life!

I often wish I could share what I see and hear and experience more than in a photo or a tweet (@principalrod). I wish I could have you with me. I wish I could take prospective parents with me so they could see the kind of engaging, nurturing, transformative, and faith-infused educational experience students receive at Rose Park throughout their days. We are praying for even more students next year. We have room! Do you know of anyone still making the decision, deciding where they might send their kindergarten student, or any grade for that matter, next year? By all means, please send them my way! I love to give tours to prospective parents and tell the Rose Park and Holland Christian story.

As always, may you bless and be blessed this weekend in rest, recreation, and in awe-filled worship. This has been another growth, meaning and joy-filled week at Rose Park, partnering with you and the rest of the staff, equipping young and eager minds, nurturing soft and tender hearts, to transform the world for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Talking with Kids about Tragedy

It is painfully obvious that the culture and world we live in today is so much different than most of us experienced growing up. Are you struggling at all knowing how to talk with your children about events like last week’s Florida school shooting? Bob VandePol from Pine Rest recorded a great interview with Miranda this week about how to talk with kids about tragedy. His insights are so sensitive and wise for children of all ages. I appreciated the interview a great deal and immediately thought of you, our Rose Park parents. Here is the link for you to see the interview,  as well. I encourage you all to take a few minutes to watch this interview, and hopefully you will find it as insightful and helpful for your parenting and families as I did.
