Rose Park News Blog, 3/23/18

Dear Rose Park Family and Friends,

These are days where I have to keep my calendar close and open at all times so that I do not miss anything. There are so many exciting learning and growth opportunities throughout the grades and building on any given day. One of this week’s highlights was the 5th grade Living Wax Museum where each student selects a specific figure from early 20th century American history to research and then present in character as a living wax museum. Our younger students filter through many of the presentations in our gym-gallery with 6th graders taking on the role of docents guiding younger students through. Because this is an annual tradition at Rose Park, our students experience this every year prior to 5th grade. As a result, they look forward to this event as 5th graders with great excitement and anticipation, to do something they have admired and seen older students do for a number of years prior. While there is excitement, admittedly, there is also a measure of fear and trepidation. For many this is the first time they have done such a large scale public presentation of their learning. The 5th grade team does such a good job of preparing students and alleviating their fears that to a person each student feels successful and proud of their work. They feel as though they have accomplished something significant, which they most certainly have! They have researched, digging honestly into the story of their chosen subject. They grow in their ability to discern their chosen figure through a biblical framework. They creatively show some of their research in posters and props they have prepared. Then, they orally share in character, again, what they have learned in the process. These are great 21st century skills!  I was proud of our 5th graders and teachers for all of the hard and good work they did. Each one learned and grew, as did we as a staff. We are looking to expand and diversify our list of eligible historical characters from which to choose in the future. In all of it, our students reflect on the mark that they may leave

In the meantime, who still needs to hear the Holland Christian and Rose Park story of Christian education? Who needs to hear your special story? And, who else needs to come into the building to join me for a few minutes in a ringside seat to see what the Holy Spirit does here in the learning and growing experience of students at Rose Park? Please, bring them! Introduce them to me! We are so eager to see whom God will add to our family! Continue to pray with us for God to expand our Rose Park family, to fill our hallways with new students, new families with whom we may partner and journey together for his sake, his glory, and his Kingdom.

As always, may you bless and be blessed this weekend in rest, recreation, and in awe-filled worship. This has been another growth, meaning and joy-filled week at Rose Park, partnering with you and the rest of the staff, equipping young and eager minds, nurturing soft and tender hearts, to transform the world for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Shalom,

Rod

Hot Lunch Balances

We appreciate families being on top of their hot lunch balances!  We submit low lunch balance emails twice a week.  If you have not gotten an email notice and your child takes hot lunch, perhaps we don’t have your current email.  Please email slambers@hollandchristian.org and she can update your emails.

To find out what your child’s current lunch balance is and also what choices they are making–(high school, only) please go to sendmoneytoschool.com .  This is a free service that allows you to see your child’s balance.  You will need your student’s ID #.  If you do not have this number, you may contact the Rose Park office.    There are two options for you to fund your child’s lunch account: You may pay online with a credit card at this site (there is a minimal service charge), or you may pay by check or cash in the Rose Park office.

Lunch balances at the end of the year roll over to the next school year.  We do not refund lunch balances.  If you have a graduating senior we do transfer balances to siblings.

Thank you for participating in our lunch program.  We enjoy serving your children each day.
