Rose Park News Blog, 3/9/18

Dear Rose Park Family and Friends,

We enjoyed one of our favorite annual chapels this Wednesday. Our HCHS Symphonic Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Scott VandenBerg, came to Rose Park and skillfully played for us 3 beautiful numbers they prepared for us. I always ask the Rose Park alum to stand before they begin so that we can welcome them “back home.” We love seeing these former students now as high schoolers. The students and staff clap wildly. And then, the music begins and all of our students, preschool through 6th grade listen so attentively to the music. We are so grateful for the gift of music in all of its manifestations. And, I am so grateful for the opportunities we have at Rose Park to enjoy and develop those gifts with voice, percussion, recorders, ukeleles, strings, and band instruments. How can we use music to cultivate shalom in the chaos of our world?

Again I say, I often wish I could share what I see and hear and experience more than in a photo or a tweet (@principalrod). I wish I could have you with me. I wish I could take prospective parents with me so they could see the kind of engaging, nurturing, transformative, and faith-infused educational experience students receive at Rose Park throughout their days. We are praying for even more students next year. We have room! Do you know of anyone still making the decision, deciding where they might send their kindergarten student, or any grade for that matter, next year? By all means, please send them my way! I love to give tours to prospective parents and tell the Rose Park and Holland Christian story.

As always, may you bless and be blessed this weekend in rest, recreation, and in awe-filled worship. This has been another growth, meaning and joy-filled week at Rose Park, partnering with you and the rest of the staff, equipping young and eager minds, nurturing soft and tender hearts, to transform the world for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Hot Lunch Balances

We appreciate families being on top of their hot lunch balances!  We submit low lunch balance emails twice a week.  If you have not gotten an email notice and your child takes hot lunch, perhaps we don’t have your current email.  Please email and she can update your emails.

To find out what your child’s current lunch balance is and also what choices they are making–(high school, only) please go to .  This is a free service that allows you to see your child’s balance.  You will need your student’s ID #.  If you do not have this number, you may contact the Rose Park office.    There are two options for you to fund your child’s lunch account: You may pay online with a credit card at this site (there is a minimal service charge), or you may pay by check or cash in the Rose Park office.

Lunch balances at the end of the year roll over to the next school year.  We do not refund lunch balances.  If you have a graduating senior we do transfer balances to siblings.

Thank you for participating in our lunch program.  We enjoy serving your children each day.

Date: Tonight – March 9, 2018 from 5:30-8:00

Location: Rose Park  and Pine Ridge School’s Fun Night

As a school body, we are celebrating with Dirk Hollebeek, as he has received a match for a bone marrow transplant.  We are excited to partner with the BE THE MATCH bone marrow program and “Pay-It-Forward” by adding donors to the registry that has blessed so many families. We encourage you to consider giving back to someone that may need this life-saving gift just as someone is sacrificing for Dirk Hollebeek.

If you would like to join this matching program, you will need to meet three criteria.

  1. Age 18-44
  2. In general good health
  3.  Be willing to help anyone with a transplant need.

If you would like to join this registry, please come to Rose Park or Pine Ridge schools on Friday night, March 9 from 5:30-8:00.  Fill out some consent forms and have a simple swab of the cheek. There is no cost to join and we have volunteers ready to help you! Thank you!

Important Illness Procedures Reminder

With flu season upon us we want to remind you of a few guidelines we have in place at Rose Park. If your child is not feeling well, please keep him/her home. You may call and talk to us directly, leave a message on the 24 hour-a-day voice mail, or you may email Mrs. Steenwyk at or Mrs. Chase at If your child has an appointment during the day, please email the teacher or send a note stating the time you will pick up your child.
