Rose Park News Blog, 4/27/18

Dear Rose Park Family and Friends,

I’m always so grateful for the events our Rose Park Parent Board plans for us, including our 5/6 before school gatherings like today’s Muffins with Moms. It is a wonderful opportunity to sit as moms and teachers with our 5th and 6th grade students enjoying a sweat treat and a cup of coffee or OJ. The conversations are animated and filled with laughter. Even in our socializing we are adding more glue to that partnership of home, school, and church. We are so blessed to be a part of that triangle. Thank you, all, for coming, and to the Parent Board for planning. What a great way to start the day!

We also had a very meaningful chapel this week when Mr. and Mrs. Kanis joined us as Joel Schoon-Tanis shared his memorial paintings for Caroline with us (see this week’s picture above). Joel reminded us that memorials always point to something more. In his paintings honoring Caroline’s life and what her life pointed to, Joel focused on and reflected Psalm 23, Psalm 121, and the song lyric for “10,000 Reasons.” All of these were favorites of Caroline and simply add to her life pointing us to Jesus still today. Joel so beautifully captured these in his characteristic style full of color and life, meaning and significance, and childlike wonder and play. Even the glory of God’s presence that Caroline enjoys today is glimpsed in the third panel. Michael and Tina so graciously have invited us to display these in a special place at Rose Park. We have just the right spot picked out. We are just working out the details. Keep your eyes open in the coming weeks before school ends for these very special paintings to be on display. When you see them, take a few minutes to dwell and reflect on the paintings, and may you find yourself being pointed to Jesus, as well.

Now, may you continue to be filled with faith, hope, love, and joy this weekend with your families in rest, recreation, and in awe-filled worship. This has been another growth, and meaning-filled week at Rose Park, partnering with you and the rest of the staff, equipping young and eager minds, nurturing soft and tender hearts, to transform the world for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Shalom,

Rod

Note to K-5 Parents

In the spring, we begin to think about placement of students for the next school year. Our teachers intimately know our students, their personalities, learning styles, social relationships, and more, and meet to prayerfully, carefully, and intentionally create class lists that will foster the best possible experience for each student next year. If your child has special needs or there are circumstances of which we should be aware, a letter or email should be written and received no later than Monday, May 7. Please do not request a specific teacher or personally ask your child’s teacher to make a specific placement for you. These requests should come through the office. We invite you to share your student’s circumstance or need for placement consideration by writing a letter or email to Mr. Brandsen at rbrandsen@hollandchristian.org with this information. Mr. Brandsen will acknowledge the receipt of each request. If you do not receive this acknowledgement within a day of sending the email, please inquire in the office.

3rd and 4th Grade at Rose Park 18-19

As we plan and staff for the next school year already, we are excited to inform you of a new opportunity in two of our grade levels for next year at Rose Park. This structure is actually not new for Rose Park or Holland Christian, yet something we have not done in recent years. In order to ensure an excellent educational experience for all of our students as we assess our current enrollment, student needs, and our shared desire for affordability, we will be running one 3rd/4th combination class in addition to one 3rd grade class and one 4th grade class next year at Rose Park. This will allow for an optimum student to teacher ratio in these grade levels, as well as support our desire for affordability for everyone at Holland Christian. To learn more about our plans for the combination classroom in 3rd and 4th grade at Rose Park, please read these FAQ’s.
