RP Newsletter – January 2020
Dear Rose Park Family and Friends,
It’s 2020! It’s been wonderful to fill our hallways and learning spaces with the sights and sounds of our students learning, laughing and loving again. We have enjoyed hearing about the non-snowy adventures your family embarked upon over Christmas break. As we stand together at the cusp of this new year, we together give God all that we are and all that will be. Looking out into 2020 we also see the new 2020-2021 school year! This means enrollment season is upon us. We continually pray for our families at Holland Christian. It is at this time of year that we pray, too, for our prospective families. We love to have new people asking questions, enjoying tours and considering joining the family at Holland Christian. Please note the following dates are when enrollment will begin: Kindergarten enrollment will begin at 7:00 am on Tuesday, February 4. Preschool enrollment will begin at 7:00 am on Tuesday, February 11. Please don’t hesitate to call school if you have any questions in that regard. We also want to ensure you received the news that our sixth grade teachers, Mr. Dave Nieuwsma and Mrs. Laura Smith, will be moving to the middle school with our sixth grade students next year. While we will certainly miss their expertise, energy and day-to-day friendship here at Rose Park, it is good to know they will bring a piece of “home” to the middle school for our incoming sixth graders next year.
Peace and joy be yours,

Tulip Time Choices
In 2018, Tulip Time reframed their mission statement to read “Mission Statement: To celebrate Holland’s tulips, Dutch heritage and community.” To better align ourselves with their mission statement as well as with the goals here at Holland Christian our Rose Park and Forest School students will be given two options for dressing up and walking in the the 2020 Kinderparade. More details will be forthcoming as we get closer to Tulip Time but we want you to be aware of the options well in advance of the Tulip Time season. Our students from Rose Park and Forest School will be given the option of walking in either our new “tulip” section of the parade or our “Dutch heritage” section. The whole of our two groups walking together will be a celebration of our “community”.
- If your first through fourth grade student chooses to opt into the “tulip” section of our parade, your child will design and construct his or her own tulip to carry and then dress as a gardener based around our Living Testimony t-shirt. This gardener costume might include gardening boots and gloves, overalls, a wide-brimmed hat, etc. Anything you have handy at home that helps your child look like a busy gardener tilling the tulips will fit the part perfectly!
- Students who opt into the “Dutch heritage” portion of our student body will wear their own dutch costume and carry the parade props our Rose Park students have carried in the past.
All of our students from Rose Park and Forest School will be walking together as one big community in the aforementioned subsets. More details about logistics, costumes and timing will be coming soon. Don’t hesitate to email Miska with questions or wonderings at firstname.lastname@example.org
January 10 is the end of the Second Quarter and 1st Semester. Be on the look out for Report Cards that will be sent home with students on Friday, January 24th.
Hoops & Hoopla 2020!
Hoops & Hoopla 2020! It’s a night of hoops, featuring the dueling staff b-ball teams of ZCS and HCS, along with 56ers scrimmages and a Unified slam dunk contest. Come also for the hoopla– photos with Elsa, Anna & friends, carnival games, bounce houses, and more, on Saturday, February 1, starting at 6:15 pm at Holland Christian High School. All this family fun for a suggested donation of $5 ($20 per family).
Proceeds of this game will go to help make the HCHS band & orchestra trip to Florida in April affordable for the over 90 students. The group will perform at Disney World and will attend educational music workshops with professional Disney musicians. Thanks for your support of the HC band and orchestra–building community, education, and excellence!
With flu season upon us we want to you of a few guidelines we have in place at Rose Park. If your child is not feeling well, please keep him/her home. Students must be fever free for 24 hours without use of a fever reducing medication before he/she may return to school. Please let us know each day your child will be absent. You may call and talk to us directly, leave a message on the 24 hour-a-day voice mail, or you may email Mrs. Steenwyk at email@example.com or Mrs. Chase at firstname.lastname@example.org. If your child has an appointment during the day, please email the teacher or send a note stating the time you will pick up your child. We will have your child waiting for your arrival in the office.

Kinder and Middle Dutch Dance
Tulip time planning is already underway! Kinder and Middle Dutch Dancing registration is open. Details are on the official Tulip time website.
Total Trek Quest is a fun, high energy program designed exclusively for boys in 3rd-5th grade! TTQ incorporates strength and stretching exercises with training for a 5K. Boys in this program will develop positive peer relationships, and feel a part of a team, while also working toward individual goals. Additional practice activities focus on developing a healthy lifestyle, social/relationship skills, how to make healthy choices, and resisting peer pressure.
Please register your son here: https://www.raceplanner.com/register/index/AOSpring2020
We’re also always looking for coaches. Coaches can be male, female, both, or neither, and are in prime position to be a positive role model for these boys throughout this 9-week journey. Coaches don’t need to be a runner, as the program has much more to offer. All coaches receive support from TTQ staff before, during, and after the season, as well as program training & CPR certification. This is a truly rewarding experience for anyone.
If you have questions regarding registering your boy(s) and/or are interested in coaching, please contact Brandon Melnyk @ firstname.lastname@example.org , or 616-450-4651.
Thank you and we will see you in the Spring!
