Rose Park February Newsletter
What do a T-Rex, a Bible verse, a Spanish verb, and tickets have in common? They are all part of our new behavior program at Rose Park!
Our theme verse is Micah 6:8 –
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.
We spent time the first week in January talking in our classrooms about how God calls us to live in relationship to Him and with other people. The Spanish word ser means “to be.” We looked at how we can glorify God and live in community by the ways we act in the classroom, hallway, bathroom, playground, and in our community (bus, field trips, all-school gatherings in the future).
In an effort to encourage positive behavior among students, teachers are looking to “catch” students with SER behavior and give them a ticket highlighting the area of Self-control, Engaged (paying attention), or Respect. Students place their tickets in one of three containers in their classroom with three possible rewards. Several students’ names are drawn each Friday to celebrate with one of the weekly rewards.
We have talked about the fact that our goal is to have positive behavior not just to get a ticket, but because that’s the way we are called by God to be. Students will not receive a ticket every time they are doing something “good” and they won’t always be the person that receives the “prize” on Friday. We are working together to encourage and celebrate living in a way that honors God and shows love to our neighbors at school.

We’re grateful to continue growing with your child this year!
It’s 2021! It’s been so wonderful to fill our classrooms and learning spaces with the sights and sounds of our children learning, laughing and loving again. We have enjoyed hearing about the snowy adventures your family embarked upon over Christmas break. As we stand together at the cusp of this new year, we together give God all that we are and all that will be. Looking out into 2021 we also see the new 2021-2022 school year! This means enrollment season is upon us. We continually pray for our families at Holland Christian. It is at this time of year that we pray too for our prospective families. We love to have new people asking questions, enjoying tours and considering joining the family at Holland Christian. Please note the following dates are when enrollment will begin: Kindergarten enrollment will begin at 7:00 AM on Tuesday, February 2. Preschool enrollment will begin at 7:00 AM on Tuesday, February 9. Please don’t hesitate to call school if you have any questions in that regard.
We would like to request, as we return to school, that students have the extra winter clothing needed for the winter months. We have limited items at school to loan students, and for sanitary and safety reasons, cannot return items to the collective inventory for 72 hours after they have been used. If there is a large number of students borrowing items, we deplete the inventory quickly. Thank you for making this a priority for your child’s health and warmth.
Items to include with your child are:
- Snow pants (for warmth) – even if it is not snowing
Restocking our Clothes Closet
Do you have extra items your child has outgrown that you are looking to donate? Our supply of pants, underwear, socks and shirts is dwindling, and we would love to add to our school closet. We mostly need boys/girls size 6-10 pants, size 5 and up underwear (boys and girls), and small socks (for preschool – 5th grade). Thank you!
Wacky Wednesdays at Rose Park!
- February 3 – Wacky Hair Day
- February 10 – Wacky Sock Day
- February 17 – Wacky Hat Day
- February 24 – Wacky Outfit Day
Please report to us if your child(ren) is going to be absent. This needs to be done each day they will not be in school. Also, we would appreciate it if they were reported in by 8:45 AM, but you can call and leave a message anytime before that time. If you do not call us, and if the child’s teacher does not know about the absence, we will try to call you. This policy is to protect your child; we want to ensure your child’s safe arrival at school.
If you would like to join the supportive work our Parent Board provides, whether you would like to work on projects primarily from home or attend periodic meetings, we are looking for interested friends to join in the work already for the 2021-2022 school year! Please contact Allison Koster at email@example.com or Cassie Kamphuis at firstname.lastname@example.org Don’t hesitate to reach out to Miska email@example.com if you have curiosities about the work or commitment. I can assure you, the work makes a HUGE difference at Rose Park and we have a blast together! Consider joining the team!
