Rose Park Newsletter – September 2019
Dear Rose Park Family and Friends,
We will begin instituting our once-a-month blog newsletter from Rose Park rather than the typical weekly edition. Your teacher will continue sending weekly notices to you keeping you posted on classroom events and information. Our all-school newsletter will now be published monthly. Our hope in doing this is to consolidate information that may be flooding your inbox. For this school year, you will receive this Rose Park edition the first Friday of each month.
Speaking of months, it’s starting to feel like autumn is tip toeing in our direction in West Michigan. The beginning of the school year rhythm is becoming our norm. Children are nestling comfortably into their new classroom communities and routines. Teachers are learning about each child in their care and they have already fallen in love with all of the new personalities. This is a beautiful time of year. One of my favorite verses from Scripture often comes to mind as I visit in and out of classrooms here at Rose Park, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” III John 4. As we close this third week of the school year, we look ahead at all of the plans laid before us with so much excitement and anticipation. We pray God’s blessing over each child each day. We hope and expect God will grow each child in dynamic and exceptional ways through our efforts together this year. Thank you for taking the time to read through this blog post as several dates and events are detailed.
All peace and joy,
Walk-A-Thon Wednesday, September 25
Our walk-a-thon information and packet was sent home last Thursday. This has become an event we all look forward to each year. Mark your calendars to join us that High School track on Wednesday, September 25 from 1:00PM-2:30PM We’re so grateful for the support of our community at Rose Park and Holland Christian at large.
Grandparents/Friends Day October 3
Our Rose Park community would like to celebrate ALL of our children and ALL of our families/friends, preschool through sixth grade. We would like to invite our preschool grandparents/friends to celebrate and participate with our entire Rose Park community this upcoming Grandparents/Friends Day. This is a new format for us and we’re excited about the program with children, preschool through sixth grade worshipping and singing together. Your child’s grandparents/friends are invited to our program on October 3 for the program in the gym at 9:30. Following the program, children will host their grandparents/friends in classrooms in an open house format from 10:15-11:15. During this time, children will be prepared to lead their grandparent/friend through activities for as long as they are able to stay. We hope this format accommodates both grandparents who have multiple children to visit by popping in for a bit as well as grandparents/friends who have one child to visit with. More details will be forthcoming as the date approaches.
PreK Guy’s Night
Calling all preschoolers and dads, grandpas, uncles, etc! Please join us at Rose Park on Thursday November 7, from 6:30PM-7:30PM. Looking forward to a fun night!
Update in Parent Teacher Conference Schedule
Parent/teacher conferences will be held from 4:00-8:00 on October 21 and 22. Sign up notification will be forthcoming. October 23 is a half-day of school. We will NOT hold parent/teacher conferences on the 23rd.
This was a very successful summer program this past summer. It is now time to return all books so we can get them filed for next year’s event. We have volunteers ready to help process the books. Please return books to Rose Park, Pine Ridge, or South Side now so we can re-shelve these summertime adventures for reuse. Thanks to all who participated in making this a huge success.
West Ottawa busing has begun.
- All cars use the east drive only, coming in off from Butternut, and using the entrance to the parking lot closest to the strip mall next door, and exiting using the drive closest to Rose Park. We have designed traffic flow to be one-way only in this fashion.
- Buses only are allowed to use the west drive. Again, no cars should use the west drive before and after school. If you are dropping off a middle or high schooler for the morning shuttle, please park and wait in the parking lot, or simply drop them off in the drive to wait for the bus.
- We have added 10 newly striped parking spots along the sidewalk of the west drive. These are for staff parking only to free up more spaces in the parking lot for parents.
A few after school carpool reminders:
- When your car is in the loading zone area – please turn on your hazard lights UNTIL you have all the children in your carpool, then turn lights off.
- If your child does not see you or has not come to your car, feel free to ask staff on duty to help your riders find their way to your car. Please stay inside of your car.
- Do not allow your children to come to your car if you are not yet in the loading area.
- Please use the carpool plan whenever possible. If you must come and get your children from the sidewalk, please park in the designated parking spots and walk in front of the loading zone area, not between cars that are waiting in the carpool lanes.
- For a more complete explanation of our carpool, parking lot, and driveway instructions, read this document.
Whether you are new or experienced at Rose Park, for your convenience, here is a link to our Elementary Handbook found on the HC website. Please refer to the handbook for general information, or with specific questions you may have about life at Rose Park.
Please report to us if your child(ren) is going to be absent. This needs to be done each day they will not be in school. Also, we would appreciate it if they were reported in by 8:45 AM, but you can call and leave a message anytime before that time. If you do not call us, and if the child’s teacher does not know about the absence, we will try to call you. This policy is to protect your child; we want to ensure your child’s safe arrival at school.

Medical Information Reminder
Parents: if your child has a medical plan on file or takes meds at school, we need an updated form signed by their physician each school year. So, if you have not done this yet, please do so asap. You are welcome to contact our school nurse, Hendrina Cupery (email@example.com). She will help you set up a plan for the office to assist in administering the medication. For safety reasons, Holland Christian Schools is not able to dispense any medication (prescription or non-prescription) to our students without a doctor’s order. Thank you!
Moms In Prayer
Moms in Prayer begins September 18 at 8:15am. All women are invited to attend a weekly prayer gathering Wednesdays in the library after morning drop off from 8:15-9am. Let’s seek the Father’s heart as we pray over our incredible school, staff and children. Questions? Email Amy Disselkoen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our elementary counselor, Mrs. DeeDee Throop is here every Tuesday all day and Friday mornings to assist with any personal or social situations that might arise with our students. She has 15 years of teaching experience and is starting her 18th year as a counselor. She loves our children and thinks of herself as a “cheerleader” for them. If you have questions or concerns about your child, please call, email, or drop in on a Tuesday or Thursday to see her. God bless you as you parent your precious children. Contact her at email@example.com or 616-886-4240.
We would love to have you join us for our all school chapels on Wednesday mornings at 10:35 AM in the elementary gym. We welcome parents and friends to join us in worship as we discover how we can grow in cultivating shalom.
For those of you planning ahead, Rose Park’s picture days are Wednesday, September 18, and Thursday, September 19. More specific information and scheduling will come once we are underway through classroom blogs.
