Wednesday, September 13, be sure to look at the fundraising packets for the walk-a-thon that came home Monday, August 28st. All money collected will be designated to support our classroom enhancements and playground upgrades. Money collected will be due on Monday, September 12. The walk-a-thon will be held at the high school on Wednesday, September 14, from 1:00-2:15pm. We would love to have you join us to cheer the kids on and be part of this fun event.
Protect Young Eyes at HC Monday, September 25 – SAVE THE DATE!
We are excited to welcome Chris McKenna, founder of Protect Young Eyes (www.protectyoungeyes.com) to Holland Christian on Monday, September 25. Protect Young Eyes exists to give busy parents and hyper-connected kids the information and tools they need to use technology awesomely. Chris McKenna founded Protect Young Eyes in response to the growing demand from parents at his church for information to help them navigate our digital culture. Chris will be speaking with 5th-8th graders during the day on the 25th. Please follow this link if you would like to see an outline of the topics Chris will be covering with each grade.
We are also inviting the entire Holland Christian Community to meet with Chris as well. He will be speaking to parents on September 25 from 7-8:30 pm in the High School Auditorium.
We hope to see you here! One of the greatest needs we hear from parents is help with how to use the Internet and technology with their kids. We look forward to partnering with you in this ongoing conversation. Our goal is that you walk away from these presentations equipped and encouraged.
Do you know of a former HC student from abroad?
If you know of a student from another country that has studied at Holland Christian, please take ONE minute to complete THIS FORM. We would like to acknowledge the many countries from which these students have come. Thank you.
Join us for Homecoming Family Weekend 2017!
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16
3rd Annual HC Fall Classic 5K, Kids Fun Run, and Community Breakfast
Holland Christian High School
5K: 8:30 am
Free Kids Fun Run: 9:15 am
Free Community Breakfast: 8:30-10 am
The HCS Homecoming 5K is going to be the weekend before the traditional homecoming game and family tailgating party, so that we can kick off the whole week of homecoming activities for the high school and alumni with the race. Plus we hopefully should have much warmer weather to run in! Afterwards, of course, all runners, and their cheerleaders can join us inside for our favorite HCS-made cinnamon rolls at the community breakfast, compliments of the Holland Christian Foundation. 5K cost: $25/person; $20/person for teams of 4 or more. Day of event registration pricing will be an additional $5/runner. For additional details and to register, please click here.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22
Tailgate Dinner and Football Game, 5 pm
Holland Christian High School
This is a night designed for families of all ages. You can join us for a tailgate dinner with kids’ games and inflatables beginning at 5 pm, then stick around for an action packed (and hopefully rain-free!) football game vs. Zeeland East. Cost is $8/per person in advance, or $10/person day of. Purchase tickets online at here.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 23
CHAMPS Golf Outing: 1 pm check-in, 2 pm tee-off
Diamond Springs Golf Course
This year’s CHAMPS golf outing–one of our perennial favorites–is part of the homecoming weekend. We hold it partly so we get a chance to hang out with you, but it’s also a great fundraiser for CHAMPS and all the sporting paraphernalia they help HCS and ZCS purchase. Plus, for the Dutch at heart, it’s a steal of a deal: a catered dinner at the club after the 18-holes, gift bags, hats, and plenty of prizes. Men’s, women’s, and mixed foursomes are all welcome; you play golf, so HC and ZC kids can play too! If you haven’t registered yet, you can still do so soon by contacting Jennifer Bieri at email@example.com or (616) 820-2916.

Carpool/Parent Pick up Procedure
Student safety must be, and remains our primary concern for everyone during student drop-off and dismissal at Pine Ridge. Our students, like any pedestrians, are defenseless against a moving vehicle. Do not assume anything as a driver. Remain alert always, and continue to scan and be aware of any and all students who may be around your vehicle at any given time as you slowly proceed.
Please communicate this information to any and all who may be involved in transporting your student(s) to and from school. All of us must be vigilant in observing these simple rules:
The drive along 40th is for bus lane only.
The drive off Graafschap road is for carpool vehicles only.
Use the Graafschap drive for dropping off your students. Please pull forward along the sidewalk (in front of our gym) at the curb. Do not stop anywhere on the traffic circle by the main entrance. Yield to the busses.
Do not park, attended or unattended, in the drive longer than to safely let your students out of your vehicle.
Park only in designated parking lot spots if you are getting out of your vehicle with your students. These would be the parking spaces along the grassy area to the west of the drive.
Remain in your vehicles as we direct your students to your car during after-school carpool. Do not get out of your cars. We will get your students to you. Catch the staff member in the middle of the loading zone to get your child(ren) who do not see you on their own.
Generally, we only load students in the “loading zone” as indicated by the solid white lines painted across the drive, and by signs on the sidewalk next to the drive. When all cars are loaded in the loading zone, a teacher will dismiss each file of cars.
When people are moving, cars are not; when cars are moving, people are not. Once your car is in the loading zone, lock it down, and do not move again until invited to do so by the staff member at the front of the loading zone.
If you are walking with your child(ren) to the parking lot, do not walk through the carpool lines. Rather, cross in front of the carpool lines only when we are loading students, waiting, of course, when we are dismissing cars.
Remember these rules are for the safety of all of our children. At times, it will mean we will have to be patient. Thank you!
