Spring Is In The Air

Thank You Maestra Klipp-Lopez and Welcome Senor Westy!

Maestra Klipp-Lopez has graciously accepted the request to teach Spanish in the high school due to staff changes in the world language department. We have so appreciated the instruction and care she has provided for our students this year. We are very excited to welcome AJ Westendorp to our staff at Pine Ridge and South Side! He has spent time collaborating with Maestra Klipp-Lopez and will carry on with our elementary Spanish instruction for the duration of the school year! Welcome aboard, Senor Westy! We are grateful you are willing to enrich our students’ lives with your gifts!

A Word from Senor Westy:

Que tal amigos!

I grew up in the Holland community and in Holland Christian Schools. I most treasure the people who invested in me personally and the sports and music programs that allowed me to explore God, the world, and myself. I attended Central Michigan University (Fire Up Chips!) where I studied Biomedical Sciences, Religion, and later got my Master’s in Public Administration. My wife Alaina and I were married in 2014 and she is an INCREDIBLE nurse at Holland Hospital. We moved to Guatemala City for two years as missionaries where we learned Spanish and served everywhere from health clinics to football fields; with kindergarteners to homeless adults. Our passion is to help our community see all of its neighbors like family, especially those who aren’t like us, because that’s the Kingdom. We love being a part of Maple Avenue Ministries in Holland and are blessed to give back to the HC community that gives so much to us.

Date: March 9, 2018 from 5:30-8:00

Location: Rose Park and Pine Ridge School’s Fun Night

As a school body, we are celebrating with Dirk Hollebeek, as he has received a match for a bone marrow transplant. We have decided to partner with the BE THE MATCH bone marrow program and “Pay-It-Forward” by adding donors to the registry that has blessed so many families. We encourage you to consider giving back to someone that may need this life-saving gift just as someone is sacrificing for Dirk Hollebeek.

If you would like to join this matching program, you will need to meet three criteria.

  1. Age 18-44
  2.  In general good health
  3.  Be willing to help anyone with a transplant need.

Want to join this registry: Please come to Rose Park or Pine Ridge schools on Friday night, March 9 from 5:30-8:00. Fill out some consent forms and have a simple swab of the cheek. There is no cost to join and we will have volunteers ready to help you!

Fun Night

The Great Outdoors!  Family Fun Night is ONE week away!  Friday, March 9, 2018  5:30 – 8:00pm at Pine Ridge.

Thank you to many of you who have volunteered or contributed in some way!  We greatly appreciate it!!  Candy donations can still be brought to the offices, and we still have some specific needs.  We could still use pop or Gatorade for the Quench Your Thirst game.  Also, we have openings for workers for second shift games.  If we don’t have enough volunteers we may not be able to offer all of the game options.  Please consider if you can help us in this way.  You can sign up http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090848abad2ea31-funnight1.

Fun Night advance ticket sales:  Beginning Monday, March 5, you will be able to purchase fun night punch cards in the office at both South Side and Pine Ridge.  40 punch cards are $10, 20 punch cards are $5, and a card to purchase a whole pizza is $6.  All games are 1 punch, and food prices range from 1 punch to 3 punches.  *New this year, HC Cinnamon Roll for 3 punches.

Children will win tickets at the games and then can go to the Prize Room (Gym) to redeem their tickets for prizes (similar to Chuck E. Cheese).

Fun Night Map and final information:  Your child will be taking home a green sheet which has a map of Pine Ridge and shows where all of the games and activities will be taking place.  It also gives important information about food prices, parking and much more!  Please look for it and take it with you to Fun Night!  Questions?  Contact Dawn Baker at dabaker@hollandchristian.org or Jen Brink at jenjbrink@gmail.com
