South Side July Newsletter
Happy Summer South Side Families!
We hope that you have all been enjoying your summer doing all of the things that you love to do. We are very excited to start thinking about the upcoming school year where we will all come together to start a new year of growing and learning together. We are happy to be able to now share with you the much anticipated class lists. Please know that there has been much thought and prayerful consideration for EACH child paired with EACH teacher. While all of our teachers have differences in their style, personality and delivery, I’m SO grateful to share with you that each teacher loves their children with their WHOLE heart and desires to serve God by loving and growing the children placed in their care. Please find the class lists linked at the bottom of this document.
You will notice that we are still in the process of hiring a full time second grade teacher as well as a part time second grade teacher. Please know that we are prayerful to make sure we get the very best candidates for these positions and we will keep you updated as soon as we have our new hires confirmed.
We are also very excited this year to be welcoming many new families to our South Side classrooms. You’ll note the name of each new child is denoted with a little asterisk. Please reach out to the new families in your classroom communities and welcome them fully to our learning family!

Junior Kindergarten Teacher
Mrs. Krystle Brouwer
Hello Junior Kindergarten Families! My name is Krystle Brouwer and I will be your child’s Junior Kindergarten teacher! I live in Holland with my husband and two children. I graduated from Grand Valley State University with my major in English Literature and minor in Elementary Education. I started my career teaching in public education and I am so excited to be moving into my new role as Junior Kindergarten teacher at South Side. Both of my children attended South Side and I love this school! In my free time I enjoy reading, spending time outside, and camping with my family. I look forward to sharing God’s love with each child that walks into my classroom.
Mrs. Stephanie Timmer
Hello, My name is Stephanie Timmer. My husband and I live in Holland and love living so close to our West Michigan beaches. Spending time outside in God’s beautiful creation by skiing, running, swimming, and biking are some of my favorite things to do. I am excited to explore and learn with your students this year. I graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2017 with a degree in Elementary Education and have been teaching Kindergarten ever since. Partnering with parents to shape these little minds brings me so much joy. I am so excited to share my love of learning and love for Christ with your students. I am looking forward to singing, dancing, and worshiping with them each day! I truly feel blessed that God has led me to teach at South Side Elementary.
First Grade Teacher Aide
Mrs. Laura Barton
Hello Families! My name is Laura Barton and I live in Holland with my husband (Erik,) three wonderful and rambunctious boys (Roger, Ethan, and Garret,) and our new puppy (Zadee.) I am coming back to the classroom this year after being home with my boys for the past 11 years. My boys are all at Holland Christian’s south side schools and I have volunteered here for many years. I’m very excited to now be part of the South Side staff! I studied child development in college and received my Associate of Arts in Child Development in 2006. I am looking forward to getting back to my teaching roots now that my own children are in school full time. I truly believe God created me to be an early childhood educator and I love being able to walk alongside my students in their earliest years of learning – guiding them in their lessons, daily routines, and social interactions, but most importantly their knowledge of Jesus and His love for them. I consider it an absolute joy to work with young children! In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family outdoors doing a lot of camping, biking, and swimming. You’ll also often find me relaxing in my backyard hammock with a good book :). I can’t wait to meet all of you and begin our year together!

Junior Kindergarten Teacher Aide
Ms. Bethany Kiekintveld
Hello Families! My name is Bethany Kiekintveld. I was born and raised in Holland and have loved the community I have made here. I am a Holland Christian grad and have loved and appreciated the education that I received from preschool through graduation and can’t wait to help your kids have the same experience I did! I have worked with kiddos ever since high school, I worked here at Southside in the after school program and loved all the memories I made with the kids there. After high school I got a job at a daycare as a three year old preschool teacher. I have been working there for two and a half years and acquired my CDA in 2020. I am so blessed to be able to work here at Southside and be able to use my faith to help grow and teach the future generation. I have been a member of Providence Church my whole life. Alongside HC, Providence has deepened my faith and been an amazing family. In my free time I love to cook, bake, hang out with friends and family and explore the beautiful world God has given us.
