FS/SS/PR Newsletter-May 10, 2019

The children have been working diligently (and attempting secrecy….thanks for pretending to be shocked at the appropriate times) to celebrate and love on their special moms in preparation for Mothers Day. And, oh, there is so much to celebrate. As teachers and staff, we too are so grateful for each of the mothers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to support, prepare, encourage and pray over every child in each of our classes. We are so grateful that you have followed what we believe to be God’s nudging in sharing the adventure of growing your child with us! We have simply fallen in love with your children!

I believe we are called to another kind of expression of love on this special day as well. If you take a moment to look closely into the eyes of parents this weekend, you may find other stories held quietly inside hearts. Sometimes you have to pause, talk with another for a moment in order to see more there than what meets the eye if you briskly pass on by. I believe God has placed us in community so that we can be the arms and hands that uphold each other when we see and feel hurt and brokenness in others. We are encouraged to gently reach out to others on this day and allow hearts that are hurting to receive love and acceptance with which, we pray, will grow into moments and twinklings of healing.

Some mothers are surrounded by little blessings! They have beautiful, healthy children and yet they are bone weary and heart weary. They are thirsting for hope, strength and rest.

Some mothers are blessed with an exceptional mother’s heart, yet their arms are painfully hollow and devoid of their own children to hold. They, too, seek hope, strength and rest.

Some mothers have been blessed with a beautiful, strong mother of her own to journey through this life with. But she grieves every day as this role model in her life has been called home to Glory. Joy, on this day, once agains eludes her.

So many mothers don’t want to face the emotional journey this day brings because they have a little beloved, a life they once carried, already home in Glory. This day brings the onslaught of what-ifs and what-could-have-beens in new and painful ways.

So many mothers are journeying the road alone. every. day. Dutifully they fulfill the role of the sole provider, the sole parent, the sole role model, the sole guider. At times this calling simply must be all too much.

This list goes on, doesn’t it. There are countless variations of stories we each bear. I believe we are called to be the person who notices. Notice the emotions and stories of others. Gently touch the forearm of another or offer a warm, knowing hug. I believe God can stir in powerful, healing ways when we seek to serve by loving others.

So, I’ll borrow words from our friend Mr. Rod Brandsen. May you bless and be blessed this weekend. We truly wish each of you a very happy, cup-runneth-over Mothers Day that is marked in compassion, tenderness, careful empathy, gentle joy and love.

Athletic 2019/2020 Information

Attention current 5th & 6th Grade students who are interested in joining the MS sports teams for the 2019-20 school year!  Holland Christian will be Rolling out a new athletic online registration system. Holland Christian Schools is now partnered with FinalForms, an athlete online registration company.  This email notification is for all parents of current students grades 5-11, but intended only for students interested in participating in any sport for the 2019-20 school year (grades 6-12… 6th graders are limited to participation in cross country, tennis, swimming & diving and track & field).  We are excited about this new relationship with benefits for our athletes and families including a streamlined athletic physical process, more efficient communication and online pay to participate fee collection. Your family data is saved season-to-season and year-to-year… meaning you should never have to enter the same information twice!

Plan to have your child’s athletic physical completed at your primary care physician before participation, please register your athlete online before doing so by following the instructions at the following link: https://www.hollandchristian.org/athletics/handbooks-forms/

Procedures and requirements such as these are important for our organization to run efficiently and safely.  We hope your experience is streamlined after the initial learning curve of the new registration process. Thank you for your efforts to assist us in extending the classroom and put knowing God on display through athletics at Holland Christian.    Go Maroons!  Dave Engbers, Athletic Director
