South Side & Pine Ridge June Newsletter

Woven Together

This has been a wonderful year! We started the year with so many questions and uncertainties. We wondered how teachers would teach and students would learn in masks, what would it feel like to try to socially distance in the classroom where our nature is to get close and come together, how long will we be able to provide in person learning, will we watch classmates and staff struggle with COVID illness…. the list could continue. Here we sit with a week of school left and as we look back, it is easy to see how God’s hand has been with us along the way. We are so blessed to have a very limited number of quarantines, masks have been worn without complaint and most importantly, staff and students have remained healthy either not having contracted COVID or contracting it and making a complete recovery. We PRAISE God for His faithfulness!!! We also thank each of you for your partnership during a very unique year. We look forward to next year with a new hope that we will start a year with all things COVID behind us.

Please join us with your lawn chairs on June 4, 10:30-11:25 for an outdoor chapel and end-of-year celebration. This chapel will highlight our students who are present on Friday and how in each classroom we were woven together through this unprecedented time. If your child attends preschool on a day other than Friday, you are welcome to come with your child to also be part of our audience and celebrate with us. We will end our chapel with a prayer over the second graders as they transition to Pine Ridge next year. I would ask that when you arrive at the chapel, please park in your designated carpool spots (K-2 front of building) and PK/JK (south side of building) and leave your car there and join us on the playground. Once the chapel is over, head right out to your car and your children will be brought out to you.

A note from Mrs. Throop

Dear Holland Christian families,

I am writing to say goodbye and thank you for 12 wonderful years of being your elementary school counselor. My family is moving in June to St. Augustine, FL.

Christian counseling is a blessing for our children and I hope and pray that you always provide it for our young boys and girls. I will keep our HC community in my heart forever, and be eager to hear more good news from all of you. Please know that I have loved your children and my responsibility to help guide and nurture them. Until we meet again.

With Christ’s love,

DeeDee Throop

/ Pine Ridge Announcements

Pine Ridge is looking forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our 5th grade graduating students as well as recognizing the staff members who will be moving on to other roles.

We cannot close out this year without a huge thank you to the staff who weathered this most unusual school year. In addition to the regular teaching duties, they had to learn how to effectively navigate Zoom, quarantine, masks, social distancing, contact tracing, etc. Most of these things were not included in teacher training programs. Thank you to all.

If you happen to stop by on a Thursday afternoon at Pine Ridge, you will not only see the friendly faces of the students and staff, you will get to see friendly canine faces as well! The Ruff Readers program has brought several furry friends each Thursday afternoon to be read to Pine Ridge students, this one of the highlights of our week!

Field Day

We are planning a modified Field Day to be held at Pine Ridge for Pine Ridge, South Side, and Forest School students. We’re excited that we get to hold it this year! We are anticipating an afternoon of fun, skill and games on Field Day. Mr. Kool has put together stations to test our athletic abilities as well as our good humor!

Students and Parents

Are you missing a few items from home? Please check the lost and found tables which will be by the main entrance at Pine Ridge Tuesday, June 1 – Friday, June 4 from 9am – 2pm.

Athletics in Middle School

As a 6th grader next year, your child will have the opportunity to join middle school sports. Please see the information below:

21-22 Sports Registration:

All families with students going into 6-12th grades will need to register online for athletics through Final Forms. Registration for 21-22 athletics will be available starting on April 1.

21-22 Sports Physicals

The athletic department anticipates the requirement of a pre-participation physical (dated after April 15, 2021) by the MHSAA to participate in school sports for next year. Holland Christian was unable to offer a night for physical appointments this spring for athletes, as was our usual custom. Athletes will need to individually schedule an appointment with their primary care provider between April 15 and the start of their first practice or try-out in any upcoming season. Physical forms are available to be printed from individual Final Forms accounts to take to your appointment for your medical provider to complete and sign.
