SS/PR Newsletter – October 2020

Dear Parents,

October is a wonderful time of the year. The colors are spectacular with everything from the reds, oranges and yellows of the leaves, to the blues and grays of the sky!  The air is typically cool in the mornings and evenings, yet, warm during the day. The foods of the season such as fruits, vegetables, and desserts are all so savory. For most of us, October is also a time to enjoy the routine that has almost become a part of our lives, after the busy beginning of school, church and community activities. This year the activities and routines are much different than past years, but through God’s faithfulness, we are finding this October to once again be a time to reflect on God’s handiwork in the world around us, as we pray for His peace and love for all.

Executive Order Update on Masks

Pursuant to the executive order issued on Friday, September 25, our kindergarten through fifth grade students must wear a mask when inside the school building effective October 5th, 2020. Children will not be required to wear a mask when eating or drinking, but they will need to wear their mask when learning in the classroom. During times of outdoor learning and outdoor play, our children will not be required to wear their masks. Our teachers are watching over your child’s comfort and prepared to allow for outdoor times for learning and play more frequently in order to take a mask break as needed. Thank you for your grace as we navigate through this change together.

Grandparents Day is going Virtual!

Our SS/PR community is eager to celebrate our children and families/friends, preschool through fifth grade, in a safe celebration this year. We would like to invite our preschool through fifth grade grandparents/friends to celebrate and participate with our students this upcoming Virtual Grandparents/Friends Day on Thursday, October 15.  Please let Grandpa/Grandma/Grandfriend know that their special someone will soon be planning a sweet celebration of the generational love and faithfulness together to take place Virtually on October 15!

Student Absences

Please report to us if your child(ren) is going to be absent. This needs to be done each day they will not be in school. Also, we would appreciate it if they were reported in by 8:45 AM, but you can call and leave a message anytime before that time. If you do not call us, and if the child’s teacher does not know about the absence, we will try to call you. This policy is to protect your child; we want to ensure your child’s safe arrival at school.

Medication at School

Parents: if your child has a medical plan on file or takes meds at school, we need an updated form signed by their physician each school year. So, if you have not done this yet, please do so asap. You are welcome to contact our school nurse, Hendrina Cupery. She will help you set up a plan for the office to assist in administering the medication. For safety reasons, Holland Christian Schools is not able to dispense any medication (prescription or non-prescription) to our students without a doctor’s order. Thank you!

Thank you so much for your generous giving and support for our walk-a-thon this year.  We have raised between SS/PR/FS $25,150.53 combined with RP and Business Sponsors we raised $54,024.53.  GOD IS GOOD!!

Moms In Prayer will meet on Friday, October 2, 9, 16 and 30th ~ in the morning from 8:20-9:20 @ the Forest School pond area. Bring a chair, Bible and Pen! Looking forward to praying the year with you. Contact Nicole Shook with questions.

Or you can add funds on-line through (fees have been removed from this program). You will need your Student’s ID # to set up new accounts. This was emailed to you earlier this month.
