SS/PR Newsletter – November 2020

Dear Parents,

In the past couple of weeks, our first grade students have been learning about Sukkot, “The Time of our Rejoicing.” Sukkot was a special time for the Hebrew people of giving thanks to God for the harvest, and it was a time of acknowledging utter and complete dependence upon God for all the good things which He provides. It was also a time where the Hebrew people remembered the days of old, the days when they first left Egypt and lived in tents in the desert, recalling God’s protection and provision over them.

The students have been really excited to decorate the booths, and to praise, worship, and give thanks.

This month we invite you to join our first grade students and the Hebrew people in a time of remembering and rejoicing.

Executive Order Update on Masks

Please make sure you send your child to school with their masks. Pursuant to the executive order issued on Friday, September 25, our kindergarten through fifth grade students must wear a mask when inside the school building effective October 5th, 2020. Children will not be required to wear a mask when eating or drinking, but they will need to wear their mask when learning in the classroom. During times of outdoor learning and outdoor play, our children will not be required to wear their masks. Our teachers are watching over your child’s comfort and prepared to allow for outdoor times for learning and play more frequently in order to take a mask break as needed. Thank you for your grace as we navigate through this change together.

Parent Team

The Parent Team would like to thank parents for signing up to show gratitude toward our teachers during the month of November. If you haven’t signed up to take a day and thank your teachers, please head back to your email and look for the Signup Genius you received last week. Remember, these tokens of appreciation are meant to be small, yet meaningful.
Additionally, Parent Team continues to meet each month to brainstorm ways we can support the staff of SS/PR/FS. This support looks very different from other years, and we are always open to suggestions. Please see a member of Parent Team with your ideas or if you are interested in joining our team.

Virtual Parent Teacher Conference – Thank You

We are thankful to have celebrated the gift of your child with you by plugging in together with remote conferences! We value your partnership and are pleased to spend time in prayer and conversation around the growth of your child. Thank you for taking the time to do so.

School Picture Retakes

Wednesday, November 4, is scheduled for retakes if you are not satisfied with the current school pictures you received. Please remember you must return the current package to have pictures retaken. If your child was absent on picture day in September, this is your opportunity to have them taken. If you need a form, please contact the office and one will be sent home with your child.

South Side – 8:30 – 9:15
Pine Ridge – Photos will follow immediately after South Side’s session.

Student Absences

Please report to us if your child(ren) is going to be absent. This needs to be done each day they will not be in school. Also, we would appreciate it if they were reported in by 8:45 AM, but you can call and leave a message anytime before that time. If you do not call us, and if the child’s teacher does not know about the absence, we will try to call you. This policy is to protect your child; we want to ensure your child’s safe arrival at school.

The month-long November Hot Lunch Menu will be posted next week. In the mean time, here are the elementary lunches for Monday and Tuesday:

Medication at School

If your child has a medical plan on file or takes meds at school, we need an updated form signed by their physician each school year. So, if you have not done this yet, please do so asap. You are welcome to contact our school nurse, Hendrina Cupery. She will help you set up a plan for the office to assist in administering the medication. For safety reasons, Holland Christian Schools is not able to dispense any medication (prescription or non-prescription) to our students without a doctor’s order. Thank you!

Moms In Prayer will meet on Friday, October 30, from 8:20-9:20 am at Providence Church. Please use the south entrance and bring a Bible and pen. Looking forward to praying the year with you. Contact Nicole Shook with questions.
